O eye, weep for him who sustained me,
Oh eye, weep for the one who wronged me
With tears from you, streaming and flowing freely.
With tears flowing down in streams
ياO جَعدَJaʿd بَكّيهِweep for him وَلاand do not تَسأَميgrow weary

O Jaʿd, weep for him and do not tire,
Oh curly hair, weep for him and do not grow weary
With rightful weeping, not a false lament.
Weeping for a right that is not false

If you cover the dead with his like
Among the people, barefoot and shod.
Among the people there is one who digs and one who buries
