God gladdened my eye when he summoned me—

God's trusted one, gentle in his questioning.

And spoke well of me concerning my love,

And asked after my sons and how I fared,

And how I had spoken of Abu Khubayb's condition,

And the misstep in his conduct, when questioned.

He is al-Mahzi, Kaʿb told us,

A man versed in the lore of bygone ages.
