You met me one night on the pathway
That brought you blessings and good fortune.
When you were still mine and joyful.

God knows: if I wished for an increase
God knows, if I wanted more
In my love for ‘Azzah, I would find no more.
Love for Aziza, I'd find no more.

يَبكونَ مِن حَذَرِ العَذابِ قُعودا
The monks of Midian and those I have known
The monks of Medina, whom I knew
Weeping as they sit for fear of torment—
Stay seated fearing torment.
لوif يَسمَعونَthey hear كَماas سَمِعتُI heard كَلامَهاher speech
لو يَسمَعونَ كَما سَمِعتُ كَلامَها

خَرُّوا لِعَزَّةَ رُكَّعًا وَسُجودا
If they heard her speech as I have heard it,
If they heard her words like I did
Would fall before ‘Azzah, bowing and prostrating.
They'd bow down to Aziza, kneeling in prayer.
وَالمَيتُand the dead man يُنشَرُis raised to life أَنthat تَمَسَّshe touches عِظامَهُhis bones
وَالمَيتُ يُنشَرُ أَن تَمَسَّ عِظامَهُ
مَسًّاa touch وَيَخلُدُand he lives forever أَنthat يِرَاكِhe sees you خُلوداeternally
مَسًّا وَيَخلُدُ أَن يِرَاكِ خُلودا
And the dead man would be raised to life if she touched his bones
And a dead man would spread his bones
With a touch, and live forever if he saw you.
To be touched, and live forever to see you.
