وَقُلتُ لَها ياعَزَّ أَرسَلَ صاحِبي

وَقُلتُ لَها ياعَزَّ أَرسَلَ صاحِبي

عَلى نَأيِ دارٍ وَالرَسولُ مُوَكَّلُ

عَلى نَأيِ دارٍ وَالرَسولُ مُوَكَّلُ

And I said to her, “O ʿAzz”—my companion sent word,

I said to her, “O most precious one, my friend sent

despite the remoteness of her dwelling, the messenger entrusted

A messenger when we were far apart, and the envoy is entrusted

بَأَن تَجعَلي بَيني وَبَينَكِ مَوعِداً

بَأَن تَجعَلي بَيني وَبَينَكِ مَوعِداً

وَأَن تَأمُريني بِالَّذي فيهِ أَفعَلُ

وَأَن تَأمُريني بِالَّذي فيهِ أَفعَلُ

with asking you to appoint a meeting between me and you,

To ask you to set a rendezvous between you and me,

and to tell me what I should do there.

And to order me as to what I should do.”

وَآخِرُ عَهدٍ مِنكَ يَومَ لَقيتَني

وَآخِرُ عَهدٍ مِنكَ يَومَ لَقيتَني

بِأَسفَلِ وادي الدَومِ وَالثَوبُ يُغسَلُ

بِأَسفَلِ وادي الدَومِ وَالثَوبُ يُغسَلُ

And my last encounter with you was the day you met me

The last covenant from you was the day you met me

at the lower end of Wadi al-Dawm, while the garment was being washed.

In the valley of acacias when clothes were being washed.
