أَقوىbecame deserted وَأَقفَرَand became desolate مِنwithout ماوِيَّةَMawiyya البرَقُal-Baraq
أَقوى وَأَقفَرَ مِن ماوِيَّةَ البرَقُ
فَذوand Dhu (possessor of) مُراخٍMurakh فَقَفرُand the wasteland of العَلقِal-‘Alq فَالحُرَقُand al-Huraq
فَذو مُراخٍ فَقَفرُ العَلقِ فَالحُرَقُ
Al-Baraq lies deserted and desolate without Mawiyya,
More powerful and barren than the thunder's desert,
and Dhu Murakh, and the wasteland of al-‘Alq, and al-Huraq.
With a slack rein, barren Al-'Alaqa then burning,
فَآكُمُand the hillocks of النَعفِal-Na‘f وَحشٌdesolate لاno أَنيسَcompanion بِهاin them
فَآكُمُ النَعفِ وَحشٌ لا أَنيسَ بِها
إِلّاexcept القَطاthe sandgrouse فَتِلاعُand the ravines of النَبعَةِal-Nab‘a العُمُقُdeep
إِلّا القَطا فَتِلاعُ النَبعَةِ العُمُقُ
And the hillocks of al-Na‘f are desolate, with no companion there
Chewing the carrion, a beast with no companion there,
except the sandgrouse; and so too are the deep ravines of al-Nab‘a.
Except the cat prowling the deep spring.
