I do not think the reach of one like your father has been attained

by anyone; nor has one like you, prevailing, been overtaken.

You two vie; his is the distinction of seniority,

and you followed after, running second, yet never surpassed.

If you two race—and his is the distinction of precedence—

then no reach like your father's has ever been attained.

And if you catch him, despite what has already been said

of his far-distant goal—how deserving and worthy you are!
