    Indeed, the blood of Banū al-Ḥiṣn was held lawful to shed

    by Banū Asad, who fought them, and then by Wālibah.

    وَجَبُّوا السَنامَ فَاِلتَحَوهُ وَغارِبَه

    It was they who lopped off the proud, lofty nose—utterly;

    they cut away the hump, then stripped it and its withers bare.

    ʿUmaylah, with his own hand, lodged him upon the spearpoint.

    May some calamity dealt by Time overtake him.
