أَلَم يَبلُغكَ بِالعَبلاءِ أَنّا

أَلَم يَبلُغكَ بِالعَبلاءِ أَنّا

ضَرَبنا خِندِفاً حَتّى اِستَقادوا

ضَرَبنا خِندِفاً حَتّى اِستَقادوا

Has it not reached you at al-ʿAblāʾ that we

Has it not reached you, of my love for her, that

Struck Khindif until they submitted?

We struck them until they were weakened and humiliated

نُبَنّي بِالمَنازِلِ عِزَّ قَيسٍ

نُبَنّي بِالمَنازِلِ عِزَّ قَيسٍ

وَوَدّوا لَو تَسيخُ بِنا البِلادُ

وَوَدّوا لَو تَسيخُ بِنا البِلادُ

We build up the glory of Qays at the encampments,

We built the tribe's glory and honor like that of Qays

And they wished the land would sink with us.

And they wished the earth would swallow us whole
