Oh, who will restore our nights that have passed,

in exchange for as many years of my life as he wishes?

When we were alone, we made this the rule of our night:

Whoever fell asleep would be roused with kisses by the one awake.

So while she was awake, I was sleepier than a cheetah,

so she would kiss me—a second draught after the first.

And if she dozed, or drowsiness appeared in her eye,

I bent to kiss her, our pact giving me the stronger claim.

And oh, what a honey-sweet night, which ensured

that you would never cease to be busy kissing!
