حطَّمتُ أَغلالَ يدي

I shattered the shackles on my hand

Against the head of every aggressor.

With the head of each aggressor

لا أَرتضي لأُمتي

لا أَرتضي لأُمتي

إلاّ مكانَ السيّد

إلاّ مكانَ السيّد

For my nation, I accept nothing

I will not accept for my nation

But the master's place.

Anything less than the status of master

يا صرخةَ المجروحِ في

يا صرخةَ المجروحِ في

إِبائِه والسؤدد

إِبائِه والسؤدد

O cry of one wounded in

O cry of the wounded in

His pride and nobility!

His defiance and misery

صَحا لها الزمانُ مِنْ

صَحا لها الزمانُ مِنْ

تعنتِ المعربد

تعنتِ المعربد

Time awoke to it from

Time has shouted for it

The drunken brawler's obstinacy.

Against the stubborn tyrant

قلْ للطواغيتِ أَما

قلْ للطواغيتِ أَما

نحن كسرنا الصنما

نحن كسرنا الصنما

Tell the tyrants: was it not

Say to the tyrants, as for us

We who shattered the idol?

We have broken the idols

في الأرضِ مِنْ فتوحِنا

في الأرضِ مِنْ فتوحِنا

مآثرٌ وفي السما

مآثرٌ وفي السما

On earth, from our conquests,

On earth, from our conquests

Are glorious deeds, and in the heavens;

Are glories, and in the sky

عَلَى البروجِ فيهما

عَلَى البروجِ فيهما

لَقَدْ رفعنا العَلَما

لَقَدْ رفعنا العَلَما

Upon the towers in both,

Upon the constellations in them

We have indeed raised the banner.

We have certainly raised the flag

فيا لها شواهداً

فيا لها شواهداً

أَضحتْ لساناً وفما

أَضحتْ لساناً وفما

And oh, what witnesses they are!

What great testimonies they have become

They have become a tongue and a mouth.

As tongues and mouths

هذي يدي للعَربِ

هذي يدي للعَربِ

في الشرقِ أَو في المغربِ

في الشرقِ أَو في المغربِ

Here is my hand to the Arabs,

This is my hand to the Arabs

In the East or in the West,

In the east or in the west

عَلَى اجتماعِ شملِنا

عَلَى اجتماعِ شملِنا

لغايةٍ ومطلب

لغايةٍ ومطلب

In pledge of our unity,

For the unity of our gathering

For a purpose and an aim.

With purpose and goal

يا يومَ إدراكِ المنى

يا يومَ إدراكِ المنى

فداكَ أُمي وأَبي

فداكَ أُمي وأَبي

O day when wishes are fulfilled,

O day of attaining the wish

May my mother and father be your ransom!

For you my mother and father sacrificed

أَناره فجرٌ فيا

أَناره فجرٌ فيا

خيل (العروبة) اركبي

خيل (العروبة) اركبي

A dawn has lit it—so, O

A dawn has illuminated it

Cavalry of Arabism, ride forth!

O horses of Arabism, ride!

فتاكِ في قبيلِهِ

فتاكِ في قبيلِهِ

مشى لنَيْلِ سؤْلِهِ

مشى لنَيْلِ سؤْلِهِ

Your young man, among his tribe,

Decisive in his tribe

Went forth to attain his wish.

He walked to attain his request

إِنْ عورض السيلُ طغى

إِنْ عورض السيلُ طغى

فخلِّ عَنْ مسيله

فخلِّ عَنْ مسيله

If the torrent is blocked, it overflows;

If the flood was opposed, it raged

So keep clear of its course.

So leave its course

أَو أُرسل السهمُ مضى

أَو أُرسل السهمُ مضى

فنحِّ عن سبيله

فنحِّ عن سبيله

Or if the arrow is loosed, it flies on;

Or the arrow was unleashed, it sped

So step aside from its path.

So clear its path

أو هوجم الليثُ حَمَى

أو هوجم الليثُ حَمَى

أَشبالَه في غيله

أَشبالَه في غيله

Or if the lion is attacked, he protects

Or the lion was provoked, he protected

His cubs in his thicket.

His cubs in ferocity

لبيكِ أَلفاً واشهدي

لبيكِ أَلفاً واشهدي

عزيمةَ المجدِّد

عزيمةَ المجدِّد

A thousand times at your service—and behold

I am at your service, a thousand times and bear witness

The resolve of the renewer.

To the resolve of the restorer

بدَّلَ من طلولِه

بدَّلَ من طلولِه

بصرحكِ الممرّد

بصرحكِ الممرّد

He has exchanged his ruins

He replaced your minarets

For your smooth-walled palace.

With your towering citadel

نفوسُنا مطيفةٌ

نفوسُنا مطيفةٌ

بركنِكِ المشيَّد

بركنِكِ المشيَّد

Our souls circle

Our souls glide

Around your lofty pillar.

Around your erected pillar

فأَنتِ عصمةٌ لنا

فأَنتِ عصمةٌ لنا

وأَنتِ برجُ الأَسد

وأَنتِ برجُ الأَسد

For you are our protection,

For you are our protection

And you are the constellation of the Lion.

And you are the tower of the lion
