ولستُand I am not بهيّابٍfearful منof الموتdeath والرَّدىand doom
ولستُ بهيّابٍ من الموت والرَّدى
ولاand no فرقdifference عنديto me طالis long أَوor قَصُرَis short العمرُlife
ولا فرق عندي طال أَو قَصُرَ العمرُ
And I am not afraid of death and doom.
I fear not the veil of death or destruction
Nor does it matter to me whether life is long or short.
The length or brevity of life are equal to me
ولكنَّنيbut I أَخشىfear فراقَparting from أَحبَّةٍloved ones
ولكنَّني أَخشى فراقَ أَحبَّةٍ
كِرامٍnoble وأَسفارand books إِذاwhen ضمَّنيَembraces me القبرُthe grave
كِرامٍ وأَسفار إِذا ضمَّنيَ القبرُ
But I fear parting from loved ones—
But I dread the parting of loved ones
Noble souls—and from books, when the grave embraces me.
Noble souls and journeys when the grave embraces me
