يَرنُّ مَديحَها في كُلِّ نادِ

Your qualities stand alone in beauty;

Your qualities of beauty are unmatched,

their praise rings out in every gathering.

Their praise sung in every gathering.

وَأَنتَ بِفهمكَ السامي ذَكيٌّ

وَأَنتَ بِفهمكَ السامي ذَكيٌّ

يَعيش بِفكرِهِ روح السَدادِ

يَعيش بِفكرِهِ روح السَدادِ

And you, with your lofty understanding, are an intelligent man,

You are wise with your noble understanding,

in whose thought the spirit of sound judgment lives.

The spirit of integrity lives in your thoughts.

أَرقّ مِن المَدامة وَهِيَ تَجلى

أَرقّ مِن المَدامة وَهِيَ تَجلى

وَأَلطَف مِن مُغازَلَة الوِدادِ

وَأَلطَف مِن مُغازَلَة الوِدادِ

More delicate than wine as it is unveiled,

More gentle than wine when it sparkles,

and gentler than love's flirtation.

And softer than the caress of affection.

نَهَبتَ اللُطف تَسلب كُل قَلبٍ

نَهَبتَ اللُطف تَسلب كُل قَلبٍ

رُوَيدَك بِالقُلوب وَبِالعِبادِ

رُوَيدَك بِالقُلوب وَبِالعِبادِ

You have plundered grace, stealing every heart;

You have stolen charm and robbed all hearts,

be gentle with hearts and with people.

Hearts and souls are infatuated with you.

عَرفتُكَ مُحسِناً قَد مَنَّ فَضلاً

عَرفتُكَ مُحسِناً قَد مَنَّ فَضلاً

عَليَّ بِما يَجلُّ مِن الأَيادي

عَليَّ بِما يَجلُّ مِن الأَيادي

I have known you as a benefactor who has bestowed bounty

I know you as a benefactor who has favored me

upon me through favors of great worth.

With gifts too glorious for hands to give.

لَقَد سَكَبت عَلَيكَ يَدُ الأَعالي

لَقَد سَكَبت عَلَيكَ يَدُ الأَعالي

شُعاعاً فَوقَ أَنوارِ الرَشادِ

شُعاعاً فَوقَ أَنوارِ الرَشادِ

Indeed, the hand from on high has poured upon you

The heights have poured their radiance over you,

a ray surpassing the lights of right guidance.

A light atop the beams of guidance.

رَأَيتُكَ تُبهر الأَنظار فيهِ

رَأَيتُكَ تُبهر الأَنظار فيهِ

فَدَع نَظَري يَراكَ وَخُذ فُوادي

فَدَع نَظَري يَراكَ وَخُذ فُوادي

I saw you dazzle eyes in that radiance;

I saw you dazzle all eyes,

so let my gaze behold you, and take my heart.

So let my sight behold you and take my heart.

وَما نَظَري وَبَعد غَدٍ مَسيري

وَما نَظَري وَبَعد غَدٍ مَسيري

يُمانِعُهُ باحجبة البُعادِ

يُمانِعُهُ باحجبة البُعادِ

Yet what use is my gaze, when the day after tomorrow my departure

Though after tomorrow my sight and my journey

will block it with the veils of distance?

Will be hindered by the veils of distance.

وَلَكن بِالتَصَور كُل يَومٍ

وَلَكن بِالتَصَور كُل يَومٍ

أَزورَك ساعياً وَالشُكر زادي

أَزورَك ساعياً وَالشُكر زادي

But in imagination, every day,

Yet in my imagination every day

I hasten to visit you, with gratitude as my provision.

I will visit you, thankfulness my provision.
