لما التَشَكُّر أَني قاصر الهَمِ

لما التَشَكُّر أَني قاصر الهَمِ

لَكنَّ للطفِ أَنواعاً مِن الكَلَمِ

لَكنَّ للطفِ أَنواعاً مِن الكَلَمِ

Why the thanks? I am limited in resolve.

Though gratitude I'm too humble to express

Yet graciousness has various forms of speech.

Kindness finds gentle words, nonetheless

قَد رَنَّ لَفظَكَ في الآذان يُطرِبُها

قَد رَنَّ لَفظَكَ في الآذان يُطرِبُها

كَما يرنم شادي الغود بِالنَغَمِ

كَما يرنم شادي الغود بِالنَغَمِ

Your utterance has resounded in the ears, delighting them,

Your words are music, charming to my ears

As a lute-singer [uncertain reading] warbles in melody.

As melodies from a nightingale, no less

إِن كانَ مَوقِعُهُ في غَير مَوضِعِهِ

إِن كانَ مَوقِعُهُ في غَير مَوضِعِهِ

فَإِن مَنبعَهُ أَهلٌ إِلى الكَرَمِ

فَإِن مَنبعَهُ أَهلٌ إِلى الكَرَمِ

If it has fallen somewhere other than its proper place,

Its place may not befit its nobleness

Yet its source is worthy of generosity.

But generous springs flow freely, nonetheless

قَد جاءَ يُحيي فُؤادي وَهُوَ يَجذبهُ

قَد جاءَ يُحيي فُؤادي وَهُوَ يَجذبهُ

بسر حُبٍّ خَفي رقَ كَالنسمِ

بسر حُبٍّ خَفي رقَ كَالنسمِ

It has come to revive my heart, drawing it

Reviving my heart, drawing it to your heart

Through the secret of a hidden love, grown tender as the breezes.

With mystic love, soft as a breeze's caress

فَحَقَ لي الآن أَن أُبدي التَشَكُر عَن

فَحَقَ لي الآن أَن أُبدي التَشَكُر عَن

ما قَد أَبانَ مِن الأَلطافِ وَالنِعَمِ

ما قَد أَبانَ مِن الأَلطافِ وَالنِعَمِ

So now it is fitting that I express gratitude for

My thanks are due for favors I profess

What it has revealed of kindnesses and blessings.

And graces I'm not worthy to possess
