Through the abundance of your bounty, learning and literature live.

And today, through your name, books have come to take pride.

From the radiance of your thought, refinement spreads,

And from the light of your understanding, guidance pours.

O lofty star, for whom danced

The heights of glory, and beneath whom meteors fell.

It kept drawing its splendor from the East,

Until it shone forth and clouds cleared from its face.

Had joys not been sipped from you, never would

Dawn have bestowed its gifts, smiling as it blazed.

O peerless chief of our state, whose shining

Lights of wisdom pour forth throughout the universe.

Our eyes are fixed on you, gazing intently,

Looking toward you, they behold a meaning that is all wonder.

    سَلَبتَها فَسرت بِالطَوعِ تَنسَلِبُ

    Our hearts seek refuge in the sanctuary of your eminence;

You stole them, and they went on willingly letting themselves be stolen.

You are entrusted with the world; how, then, have

Souls come to be plundered by your enchanting kindness?

The hopes of earth's people revolve around you,

And you revive the earth's hope, O lodestar!

The mouths of humankind have sung your praise, just as

Poems and orations have resounded with descriptions of you.

You are the eloquent one whose words are pearls,

Offered as gifts, which the ages treasure about their neck.

Indeed, you have found the finest sanctuary for literature,

Bestowing on poetry a glory it gains from you.

    إِذا نَظَرتَ إِلَيهِ يَحصل الأَرَبُ

    So I have come to offer you fruit from its gardens;

When you look upon it, the aim is attained.

It is the book I have presented as testimony

To devotion, written down like a covenant.

I honored it with your lofty name, and with that name

This faithful evening companion is now associated.

    يَرى المَهابَةَ تَعلوهُ فَيَضطَرِبُ

    It hopes for acceptance, for it has come in bashfulness;

It sees majesty towering over it, and trembles.
