Shine forth with your light; do not spare the eyes.

For throughout the universe you are the joy of the peoples.

You are the magnanimous hero who revived humanity through what

He revealed of the mysteries of knowledge and action.

Through your grace the lands rest secure, and there is

No dispute about that among God's servants.

Until on glory's horizon you became a full moon of guidance,

Without a peer, arrayed in the noblest robes.

How many aspirations you revealed, O leader of the realm,

Lofty like yourself, beyond all comparison.

And how many calamities you repelled, confronting them

With forbearance and reason, not with swords and spears.

    وَكَم نَجَحتَ وَكَم أَصلَحتَ مِن خَلَلِ

    And how much you bestowed, how many favors you displayed;

And how often you succeeded, how many faults you repaired.

You busied yourself with the world, so it is entitled

To draw you into diversion away from work.

It is only just that you give yourself what

I have bestowed upon the peoples as ease of living.

Yours are the heights, the expanse, and the universe entire,

And the age; so greet the world without haste.

And remember your humble servant, and enfold him in affection,

For your regard leaves no fear behind.

Are you not the heart of the universe, its peerless one,

Reviver of hearts, remover of disease and ailments?

God bless you—what a man in the heights of glory,

Lofty in resolve, turning aside for no man.

Your wandering, thirsty pen—we behold it

As an arrow of truth in a hand of hope.

It tells the sword, if it rivals it out of envy:

"Cease your toil: earnestness is not like jest."

And in your right hand is a sword, Dhu al-Fiqar, endowed with

Earnest purpose; and you are an imam over the noble.

When unsheathed, it spares no champion,

As though death lurked in its two faces.

You have a smile that heals wounds, and before

Its splendor, the universe's dawn withdraws in shame.

    أَضحى بِها الخَلقُ مِثلَ الشارِبِ الثَمِلِ

    And a tenderness whose essence, I said, is the spirit of wine;

Through it, mankind has become like an intoxicated drinker.

Praise is yours; the people of the earth have indeed unfurled

The banners of your praise over plain and mountain.

And glory's fingertips in the heights have inscribed

With their light your name, preserved unto eternity.
