إِنindeed هَولَthe terror of الحُزنِgrief بِالأَحشاءِwithin the entrails غازيan invader
Support her with weeping, not with condolences.
Console her with weeping, not with condolences,
For grief's terror invades her very entrails.
For the intensity of grief is invading her innermost being.
قَدalready أَذابَتهاhave melted her حَقيقاتthe realities of الأَسىsorrow
فَاِترُكوهاso spare her مِنfrom عِباراتexpressions of المَجازِfigurative speech
The realities of sorrow have already melted her away;
The realities of anguish have melted her down completely,
So spare her the phrases of metaphor.
So leave her be from expressions of metaphors.
عِندَهاwith her كانَthere was هِزارٌa nightingale فَاِنثَنىthen he turned away
طائِراًflying هَلwill ...? بَعدَهُafter him تَصبوshe yearns لِبازِfor a falcon
She had a nightingale; then he turned away,
She had a thousand joys that doubled over,
Taking flight—will she yearn for a falcon after him?
Flying - after it, do hawks aspire for the falconer?
خَطَفتُهُsnatched him away نائِباتٌcalamities فَاِختَفىand so he vanished

شارِداًwandering يَسلُكُhe makes his way فيthrough أَقصىthe remotest مَجازِpassage
Calamities snatched him away, and he vanished,
Sudden misfortunes snatched it away and it disappeared,
A wanderer, following the remotest path.
Wandering, traversing the furthest metaphors.
غُصنَهاher bough الغَضُّtender أَمالَتهُbent it الصِباthe east wind
فَاِنثَنىso it bent إِذsince كانَit was فيin غَيرa lack of اِرتِكازِfirm anchorage
Her tender bough was bent by the east wind,
The tender branch, the morning breeze bent it over,
So it bowed, for it lacked firm anchorage.
So it doubled over as it was without a brace.
طالَماfor a long time جارَتshe was unjust عَلَيهِto him فَسَرىso he left by night
يَخلَعُcasting off النيرthe yoke طَلوباًeager لِلمَفازِfor deliverance
Long had she oppressed him, so he left by night,
Often it flowed over it, so it flowed,
Casting off the yoke, eagerly seeking deliverance.
Shedding the yoke, yearning for the expanse.
فَاِنتَهىso ended عُمرُthe life of هَواهاlove for her عِندَهُwithin him
كُلُّevery شَيءٍthing فيin البَراياcreation لِلنجازِdestined to end
Thus his love for her reached its end;
So the life of her passion ended next to it -
Everything in creation is destined to end.
Everything in the wild is for the pickings.

إِنif مَشىproceeds مالِكهُits ruler دونَwithout اِحتِرازِcaution
Every kingdom will be lost or fall
Every fallen or lost kingdom,
If its ruler proceeds without caution.
If its owner walks without caution.

She tore her garments in rage over
She tore her clothes in anger over
Losing love's captive after taking possession of him.
The loss of the prisoner of love after crossing over.

وَتَشُقُّand rent الصَدرَthe breast مِنfrom تَحتِbeneath الطِرازِthe embroidered trim
She almost clawed the cheeks of heaven
She almost scratches the cheeks of the sky
And rent her breast beneath the embroidered trim.
And splits the chest from beneath the decoration.

If you knew the maiden's jealousy,
The jealousy of the tender one - if you knew it
You would guard against its deadly fury on the day of single combat.
You would not withstand its violence on the day of trial.
هاجَمَتassailed عَينُthe eye of سِواهاsomeone other than her عَينَهُhis eye

Another woman's eye assailed his,
Her eye attacked the eye of her beloved,
And captured him, holding him as her choicest treasure.
And captured it, containing the best treasures.
مُذwhen رَأَهاhe saw her وَهِيَwhile she تَدعوwas calling للصَفاto delight

When he saw her beckoning to delight,
Since she saw her calling for clarity,
He promptly seized the chance to best advantage.
He seized the opportunity for the best gain.
فَرَأىand he saw ذاتَa woman of جَمالٍbeauty باهِرٍdazzling

And he saw a woman of dazzling beauty,
For he saw a clearly beautiful being
Who shamed the bough with her swaying and quivering.
That shames the branch with bending and shaking.

Beauty wrote upon her glances:
Beauty has written on her glances:
"Guard your souls against the deadly assaults of raiding beauties."
"Guard your souls from the violence of the raiders."
