Your tin arrived, though I never saw her shape,

But I learned of her bewitching beauty.

And I learned how she astonished, at every station,

The souls of onlookers and notables.

Oh, how lovely her glitter, scattered

Around her, beckoning with a thousand fingertips!

Oh, how lovely that fragrance, and how it opens

Appetite's locks in one already sated!

The train traveled with her, strutting coquettishly,

And breathing out its burning longing in smoke.

Until it reached Egypt with her; then stretched forth

Hands to carry her without delay.

She was lifted upon arms, her waist swaying coyly,

And her head tilted with the swaying.

And all the station's corners resounded,

And its people, with cries of approval.

At last, when her offspring rang out

Throughout the land, the two pyramids swayed with love.

And the stately Nile beamed, applauding

In rapture, and surged with molten gold.

And the celebrations spread from Egypt to

The heights of Upper Egypt, to the peaks of Aswan.

The Nile, the cataract, and the monuments from

The remotest age to the newest, to the newest age,

And the people and the gods among their carvings,

And the voices of birds and beasts,

All praised what you had done, and sang:

Long live the generosity of our beloved Nu'man!
