You have come, O wedding anniversary,

And the two luminaries have revealed your radiance.

So the people cheer for the king

And for the queen, with congratulations.

    And Egypt's heart prays humbly

For them both, that their wishes be fulfilled.

    Youth's ornament in handsome looks,

And in generosity and lofty standing—

    God's providence bestowed upon him

The peerless one among beautiful women.

So she appeared, and it was as though she were

Among humankind, one of Paradise's houris.

Beside him was the loftiest place.

    During the four years,

Their two lamps have shone bright.

And their life is enriched with contentment by

    Their two hearts in harmony.

They both displayed the household's perfection in

The loveliest image for the eye to behold.

And in that sky there shone

Two stars, one after the other.

    How lovely this festival,

And the adornments and songs within it,

    And friends exchanging

The ringing notes of the third and second strings!

In it, the joys are shared by

The East, from far and near.

    How fares al-Kinana? How fare

Her Nile's valley and its two banks?

O you who unite Mina's two crowns

Into the crown of Farouk of this age,

And ennoble the two emblems—the sword of

    Muhammad and the scepter—

    Have you seen your people—

How they show their delight at the festival?

Have you seen what is meant by

    Righteousness, when meanings take form?

How great is what you have achieved for your Egypt

In so brief a span of time!

    ادَ لَكَ الرِّقَابَ بِلا عِنَانِ

    So it showed how justice

    Led necks to you without a rein;

    تَلُّ الْحُقُودَ مِنَ الْجَنَانِ

    And it showed how forbearance

    Draws grudges from the heart;

    افَةِ يَنْتَقِي سَبَبُ الْهَوَانِ

    And it showed how, with

    Culture, the cause of humiliation vanishes [uncertain reading];

And it showed what awe is inspired by

    The unsheathed sword and the spearhead;

And it showed what your plantings yielded

    Of diverse harvested fruits.

And gained a share in food,

And in clothing, and in buildings.

The bitterest enemy of a nation—

Against him, from the fire of spear-thrusts [text unclear].

And victory is a victory for dignity,

    And for safety and security.

    Marvels of a dazzling deed

    Have rendered eloquence's marvels powerless.
