هذِيthese الْمَفَاخِرُglories فِيin تَبَايُنِهَاtheir diversity
هذِي الْمَفَاخِرُ فِي تَبَايُنِهَا
مَجْمُوعَةٌgathered together لَمْdid not يَحْوِهَاcontain them قَصْرُa palace
مَجْمُوعَةٌ لَمْ يَحْوِهَا قَصْرُ
These glories, in all their diversity,
are gathered here, though no palace has ever held them.
فِيin كُلِّevery مَوْقِعplace لَحْظَةٍa glance عَجَبٌa marvel
فِي كُلِّ مَوْقِع لَحْظَةٍ عَجَبٌ
يَصْطَادُcatches مِنْهُfrom it اللَّذَةَdelight الفِكْرُthe mind
يَصْطَادُ مِنْهُ اللَّذَةَ الفِكْرُ
Wherever a glance falls, there is a marvel
from which the mind catches delight.
تُحَفٌmasterpieces مِنَof الْفَنِّart الرَّفِيعِlofty يُرَىis seen
تُحَفٌ مِنَ الْفَنِّ الرَّفِيعِ يُرَى
فِيin كُلِّevery نَاحِيَةٍcorner بِهَاin them سِحْرُenchantment
فِي كُلِّ نَاحِيَةٍ بِهَا سِحْرُ
Masterpieces of noble art: one sees
enchantment in every corner among them.
فِيهَاin them أَفَانِينُvaried forms الرَّوَائعِwondrous works مِنfrom
فِيهَا أَفَانِينُ الرَّوَائعِ مِن
عَصْرٍan age يَلِيهِfollows it بِغَيْرِهَاwith others than these عَصْرُan age
عَصْرٍ يَلِيهِ بِغَيْرِهَا عَصْرُ
Here are wondrous works in many forms, from
one age, then others from the age that follows.
هَذَاthis هُوَis الْكَرَمُgenerosity الْخَلِيقُworthy بِهِof it
هَذَا هُوَ الْكَرَمُ الْخَلِيقُ بِهِ
مَنْone who لاَnot يُسَامِيrivals قدْرَهُhis stature قَدْرُany stature
مَنْ لاَ يُسَامِي قدْرَهُ قَدْرُ
This is the generosity befitting
one whose stature no stature can rival.
فِيin بَيْتِa house مَجْدٍof glory كَانَwas مِنْfrom قِدَمٍlong ago
فِي بَيْتِ مَجْدٍ كَانَ مِنْ قِدَمٍ
بَيْتاًa house تَتِيهُtakes pride بِجَاهِهِin its prestige مِصْرُEgypt
بَيْتاً تَتِيهُ بِجَاهِهِ مِصْرُ
In a house of glory that has long been
a house whose prestige makes Egypt proud.
نُورُthe light الهُدَىguidance (Huda) أَبْهَىthe fairest الحُلَىadornments بِهin it
نُورُ الهُدَى أَبْهَى الحُلَى بِه
وَشُعَاعُهَاand its radiance الأَخْلاَقُvirtue وَالطُّهْرُand purity
وَشُعَاعُهَا الأَخْلاَقُ وَالطُّهْرُ
Huda's guiding light is its fairest jewel,
and its radiance is virtue and purity.
يَاO رَبَّةmistress الصُرْحِof the mansion الْمُنِيفِlofty وَمَنْand one whose
يَا رَبَّة الصُرْحِ الْمُنِيفِ وَمَنْ
زِينَاتُهُher adornments الآدابُletters وَالشِّعرُand poetry
زِينَاتُهُ الآدابُ وَالشِّعرُ
O mistress of the lofty mansion, you whose
adornments are letters and poetry!
كَمْhow many فِيin رِحَابِكِyour halls عُزَّwas honored مُنْتَسِبٍa kinsman
كَمْ فِي رِحَابِكِ عُزَّ مُنْتَسِبٍ
وَزَكَاand flourished عَلَىthrough تَفْرِيعِهِits branching الأَصْرُkinship
وَزَكَا عَلَى تَفْرِيعِهِ الأَصْرُ
How many a kinsman has gained honor in your halls,
and kinship has flourished through its branching!
الْيَوْمُtoday نُؤْنِسُwe perceive مِنْfrom نِدَاكِyour bounty بِهَاin them
الْيَوْمُ نُؤْنِسُ مِنْ نِدَاكِ بِهَا
طَرْفاًa portion وَمِلْءَand filling صدُورِناour breasts شكرُgratitude
طَرْفاً وَمِلْءَ صدُورِنا شكرُ
Today, in them, we perceive from your bounty
a portion, while gratitude fills our breasts.
سِيزَاSeza فَتاةُa young woman ثَقَافَةٍof learning وَحِجىًand wisdom
سِيزَا فَتاةُ ثَقَافَةٍ وَحِجىً
نَبَغَتْshe excelled وَمَاand not أَنْدَادِهَاher peers كُثْرُmany
نَبَغَتْ وَمَا أَنْدَادِهَا كُثْرُ
Seza, a young woman of learning and wisdom,
has excelled, and few are her peers.
فِيin نَهْضَةِthe awakening الْجِنْسِof the sex اللَّطِيفِfair لَقَدْindeed
فِي نَهْضَةِ الْجِنْسِ اللَّطِيفِ لَقَدْ
دَرَتِhas recognized الكِنَانَةُEgypt (the Quiver) أَنَّهاthat she الْبِكْرُthe pioneer
دَرَتِ الكِنَانَةُ أَنَّها الْبِكْرُ
In the awakening of the fair sex, indeed,
Egypt—the Quiver—has recognized her as the pioneer.
تَبِعَتْshe followed هُدَىHuda فَاعْتَزَّand so gained honor جَانِبُهَاher side
تَبِعَتْ هُدَى فَاعْتَزَّ جَانِبُهَا
وَلِكُلِّand for every مَنْone who تَبِعَfollowed الْهُدَىguidance الْفَخْرُpride
وَلِكُلِّ مَنْ تَبِعَ الْهُدَى الْفَخْرُ
She followed Huda, and her standing was exalted;
and all who follow guidance have cause for pride.
اشْهَدْتنَاyou let us witness فِيon يَوْمِthe day خُطْبَتِهَاof her betrothal
اشْهَدْتنَا فِي يَوْمِ خُطْبَتِهَا
يَوْماًa day يَضِنُّis sparing بِمِثْلِهwith its like العُمْرُa lifetime
يَوْماً يَضِنُّ بِمِثْلِه العُمْرُ
You let us witness, on the day of her betrothal,
a day whose like a lifetime rarely grants.
نِعْمَhow fine الْعَرُوسُthe bridegroom أَصَابَhit the mark خُطْوَتِهِhis step
نِعْمَ الْعَرُوسُ أَصَابَ خُطْوَتِهِ
فِيin قَلْبِهَاher heart كَفْؤُan equal لَهَاfor her حُرُّnoble
فِي قَلْبِهَا كَفْؤُ لَهَا حُرُّ
How fine the bridegroom, whose step found its mark
in her heart—a noble man, her equal!
قَدْhas نوَّلَتْshe granted يَدَهَاher hand صُنَّاعُskilled يَدٍof hand
قَدْ نوَّلَتْ يَدَهَا صُنَّاعُ يَدٍ
فِيin الْفَنِّart مَرْفوعاًexalted لَهُfor him ذِكْرُrenown
فِي الْفَنِّ مَرْفوعاً لَهُ ذِكْرُ
She has given her hand to one skilled of hand,
whose renown in art is exalted.
يَبْنِيhe builds التَمَاثِيلَstatues الحِسَانَbeautiful وَفِيand in
يَبْنِي التَمَاثِيلَ الحِسَانَ وَفِي
كُلٍّeach يَرُوعُinspires awe الصَّوْغُthe shaping وَالسِّرُّand the mystery
كُلٍّ يَرُوعُ الصَّوْغُ وَالسِّرُّ
He fashions beautiful statues, and in
each, the shaping and the mystery inspire awe.
كُفُؤَانِtwo equals قَدْindeed صَلحَاthey were well suited لِيَنتظِمَاso they may be joined
كُفُؤَانِ قَدْ صَلحَا لِيَنتظِمَا
فِيin الْبَيْتِthe home أَكْمَلَcompleted شَطْرَهُits half الشّطْرُthe other half
فِي الْبَيْتِ أَكْمَلَ شَطْرَهُ الشّطْرُ
Two equals, well suited to be joined
in one home: one half completes the other.
لِتَدُمْmay it endure مُجَارَاةُkeeping pace الْمُنَىwishes لَهُمَاfor them both
لِتَدُمْ مُجَارَاةُ الْمُنَى لَهُمَا
وَيَظلُّand may it remain فِيin إِقْبَاِلهِits favor الدَّهْرُtime
وَيَظلُّ فِي إِقْبَاِلهِ الدَّهْرُ
May their wishes always keep pace with them,
and may time remain forever favorable.
