The sun of majesty shone in your countenance
And every heart in the Nile valley has greeted you.
And every heart in the Nile valley hailed you

The homelands rejoice to welcome you back,
Good tidings to the citizens that you have returned
With the good they wished for, and your glad tidings.
With all the goodness and glad tidings you wished for them

Glory to Him who joined a beautiful form with
Glory to Him who joined the beautiful creation to
A beautiful character, and adorned you with both beauties.
A beautiful creation and adorned you with both beauties

And to Him who endowed you with perfect manners,
And endowed you with perfect manners
Which the manners of kings could never equal.
Far above the manners of any kingdom
فِيin سَاحِthe court of جُودِكِyour bounty سَادَاتٌnobles أَعَزَّهُمُhonored them

In the court of your bounty are nobles whom He raised
In your generous presence, nobles were ennobled
Above abasement, and He freed you from needing the wealthiest.
Free from humiliation and enriched by you

And to all that lofty ideals seek in their variety,
And whatever lofty ideals there are in their variety
Whatever the soul's diverse aims, He raised you.
According to the different aspirations of the soul, you attained the highest
أَنْتِyou الأَمِيرَةُthe princess مَنْwhoever أَسْمَىnamed بِهَاby that title أَحداًanyone
فَقَدْthen indeed عَنَاكِmeant you بِهَاby it وَصْفاًas a description وَأَسْمَاكِand named you
You are the princess; whoever gives anyone that name
You are the princess; if anyone aspired through you
Has indeed meant you by that description, and named you.
He only did so through your description and your name
حَلَلْتِyou dwelt مِنْof ذُرْوَةِthe summit of العَلْيَاءِglory مَنْزِلَةًa station

You have taken a station at the summit of glory,
You attained the highest position of glory
Where none among crowned women has dwelt but you.
That none of the crowned ladies attained except you
رَأَىsaw بِكِthrough you النَّاسُthe people مِنْof فَضْلٍbounty وَمِنْand of كَرَمٍgenerosity

Through you, people have seen such bounty and generosity
Through you people saw such generosity and nobility
As they would never have seen without you.
That they would not have seen had it not been for you
فَإِنْso if شَهِدْتِyou witnessed زَمَاناًan age رَاحَbecame أَجْدَرُهُits one most obliged

And if you have seen an age when the one most obliged
So if you witnessed an era whose greatest merit
To thank you for your favors proves ungrateful and complaining,
Was to show gratitude for your blessings, yet it was ungrateful and doubting

Bestow more bounty on humankind, never forgetting
Increase your grace to the creatures, not forgetting
That stooping to its level does not befit your like.
That to come down to them is not your duty

Humankind, or most of it, has since ancient times repaid
Most people reward a favor with ingratitude
Kindness with ingratitude, and flowers with thorns.
And roses with thorns

True forbearance is yours, though kings may boast of it;
Patience is your patience; though kings boast of it
Far be it from you to shun goodness—far be it from you!
God forbid you disdain doing good, God forbid

And nothing flourishes in the mother of benefactors except
None shines through the mother of benefactors
Bounty that blooms beyond the offenses of foes.
Except the dew that flows after the injustice of enemies has passed
هَلْis there فِيamong المَسَرَّاتِjoys مَاanything that يَرْضىis pleased الضَّمِيرُthe conscience بِهِwith it

Is there among joys anything that satisfies the conscience
Is there anything that satisfies the conscience
Like acts of charity for the dispossessed and the weeping?
Like pardoning the oppressed and the weeping?

The seat of your unassailable honor stands high,
Your lofty place is high
Above an aggressor's claims and a habitual liar's deception.
Above the claim of slanderers and the delusions of deceivers
مَاnot ضَارَهَاharmed it مِنْfrom لَيَالٍnights إِنْeven if عَبَسْنَthey frowned بِهَاupon it

No nights have harmed it, even if they frowned upon it;
Many gloomy nights could not harm it
For many a glory laughs at the ages.
For days of glory often laugh at fate
وَرُبَّand many an رَامٍarcher بِسَهْمٍwith an arrow لاَno مَضَاءَpiercing power بِهِin it

And many an archer, with an arrow lacking piercing power,
And many an archer has aimed with an arrow that did not hit
Shot far, then grew weary without reaching his mark.
He shot far but fell short of reaching you
وَنَاصِبٍand a setter شَركاًa snare لَمْdid not يُجْدِavail نَاصِبَهits setter

And many a trapper laid a snare that availed its setter nothing—
And a hostile plotter whose plotting
Can the eagle be taken from its lofty height by snares?
Could the eagle be trapped with snares?
يَاO رَبَّةَmistress of النُّبلِnobility أُذْنُthe ear of الحقِّTruth سَامِعَةٌhearing

O mistress of nobility, Truth's ear hears
O mistress of nobility, God's ear hears
The prayer for you, and God's eye watches over you.
Prayers for you and God's eye watches over you

Live and last well protected and honored
With the fragrance of your remembrance perfuming every gathering.
Spreading the sweet fragrance of your mention in every assembly
