The flags fluttered at the sight of your face,

And the notables walked, surrounding your retinue.

From the harbor of the radiant seaport to the domain

Of most beneficent Egypt: greetings and peace.

The train folds away stretches without end,

And on both sides, necks and heads surge in waves.

God be praised! For you, for the country, and for glory—

    This loyalty and that homage!

    إنَّ العِظَامَ لَبَالنُّفُوسِ عِظَامُ

    A state that deepens your tenderness and gentleness;

Indeed, the great are great in soul.

O Sa'd of fortunes, rise over Egypt, and may it never depart

    From Egypt again—your smiling radiance.

Quench the eyes with the radiance you pour forth,

For you were veiled, and the eyes burn with thirst.

Two years passed in absence, and for one who

Yearns, the shortest hour is years.

Today there is no exaggeration in a man's words:

Al-Muqattam was shaken, and the Pyramids grew drunk,

And through the Nile valley flowed its molten agate,

Watering the groves—and the drink was wine.

This is the reward of the devoted, and this is how

    Nations praise their heroes.

What of the gratitude bestowed upon you

By Egypt's sons, who are generous indeed?

The savior of the country and restorer of its rights—

How much of his due can reverence repay?

For glories, it is enough that you have become their refuge,

And their hoped-for sanctuary when they are wronged.

God, how resolute you are in the task which

Egypt called you to undertake, you gallant man!

    مَا مِنْهُمُو إِلاَّ فَتىً مِقْدَامُ

    You excelled in what you love, and your companions excelled;

Not one of them but a bold young man.

You all put sound resolve to work, so never could

The lion in its thicket strike terror in you.

And you have proved that judgment can attain

In achieving success what the keen sword cannot attain.

So through the nobility of this judgment, well guided as it is,

And through the merit of that resolve, mighty as it is,

Egypt will return to her lofty station,

And hers is Suha—or a station higher still.
