بَيْتُhouse of سُلْطَانَSultan فِيin زُهَاهُits splendor تَجَدَّدْwas renewed
بَيْتُ سُلْطَانَ فِي زُهَاهُ تَجَدَّدْ
عَادَreturned أَزْهَىmost splendid مَاwhat كَانَit was وَالْعَوْدُand the return أَحْمَدْmore praiseworthy
عَادَ أَزْهَى مَا كَانَ وَالْعَوْدُ أَحْمَدْ
Sultan's house has been renewed in its splendor.
The palace of the Sultan is renewed in its splendor
It returns at its most splendid, and better still is the return.
It has returned to be the most beautiful it once was, and this return is best
شَيَّدَتْهُshe built it هُدَىHuda لِذِكْرَىin memory of أَبِيْهَاher father
شَيَّدَتْهُ هُدَى لِذِكْرَى أَبِيْهَا
حَبَّذَاhow admirable الْبِرُّfilial devotion وَالْبِنَاءُand the building الْمُشَيَّدْerected
حَبَّذَا الْبِرُّ وَالْبِنَاءُ الْمُشَيَّدْ
Huda built it in memory of her father.
It was built by guidance, commemorating his father
How admirable the filial devotion and the edifice raised!
Goodness approved it, as did its magnificent construction
وَهُدَىand Huda فَخْرُpride of نُسْوَةِwomen of الشَّرْقِthe East مَنْwho
وَهُدَى فَخْرُ نُسْوَةِ الشَّرْقِ مَنْ
أَهْدَىmore rightly guided سَبِيلاًin one's path إِلىtoward الكَمَالِperfection وَأَرْشَدْand wiser
أَهْدَى سَبِيلاً إِلى الكَمَالِ وَأَرْشَدْ
And Huda, pride of the women of the East—who
It was also guided by the pride of the women of the East
is better guided on the path to perfection, and wiser?
She who paved a way to perfection and guided rightly
حَسْبَهَاsufficient for her الْمُنْتَميdescent (apparently intended) إِلىfrom عَلَمٍan eminent figure طَاfirst part of 'rivaled'
حَسْبَهَا الْمُنْتَمي إِلى عَلَمٍ طَا
وَلَcompletion of 'rivaled' أَعْلاَمَluminaries of عَصْرِهِhis age وَتَفَرَّدْand stood alone
وَلَ أَعْلاَمَ عَصْرِهِ وَتَفَرَّدْ
Her descent from a great man is enough—one who
It suffices that she belongs to a supreme lineage
rivaled the luminaries of his age and stood alone.
With no peers in her time, unique in stature
كَانَhe was مِقْدَامَbold champion of قَوْمِهِhis people وَأَبَاand father of النُّوَّfirst part of 'the deputies'
كَانَ مِقْدَامَ قَوْمِهِ وَأَبَا النُّوَّ

السِّرَّthe secret فِيمَاin what بَنىhe built لِمِصْرَfor Egypt وَمَهَّدْand laid the groundwork
السِّرَّ فِيمَا بَنى لِمِصْرَ وَمَهَّدْ
Its construction is no marvel; but
Its construction is no novelty, except that
the secret lies in what he built for Egypt and the foundations he laid.
The secret in what he built is to pave the way for Egypt
وَلَقَدْand indeed زَارَهُhe visited it سَعِيدٌSa'id قَدِيماًlong ago
وَلَقَدْ زَارَهُ سَعِيدٌ قَدِيماً
أَيُّwhat بِيْتٍhouse فِيin عَهْدِهِhis time كَانَwas أَسْعَدْhappier
أَيُّ بِيْتٍ فِي عَهْدِهِ كَانَ أَسْعَدْ
And indeed, Sa'id visited it long ago;
Once upon a time, Sa’eed visited it -
what house in his time was happier?
Which house in his era was more fortunate?
وَالحَفِيدُand the grandson العَظِيمُgreat يَمَّمهُheaded toward it اليَوْمَtoday
وَالحَفِيدُ العَظِيمُ يَمَّمهُ اليَوْمَ
فَثَنَىso he doubled فَضَلاًfavor بِفَضْلٍwith favor فَخُلِّدْand so was immortalized
فَثَنَى فَضَلاً بِفَضْلٍ فَخُلِّدْ
And the great grandson made for it today;
And today, the great grandson restores it
so he added favor to favor, and lasting renown was won.
Adding excellence to excellence, to be immortalized
يَاO مَلِيكاًking آلاَؤُهُhis blessings شَامِلاَتٌembracing
يَا مَلِيكاً آلاَؤُهُ شَامِلاَتٌ
طَبَقَاتِranks فِيamong شَعْبِهِhis people تَتَعَدَّدَّare numerous
طَبَقَاتِ فِي شَعْبِهِ تَتَعَدَّدَّ
O king, whose blessings embrace
O king whose favors encompass
the many ranks among his people,
His people in layers, continuously
يَمْنَحُhe grants الْفَخْرَhonor مِثْلَlike مَاwhat يَمْنَحُhe grants الْوَفْرَabundance
يَمْنَحُ الْفَخْرَ مِثْلَ مَا يَمْنَحُ الْوَفْرَ
وَهَذِيand these الآلاءُblessings هَيْهَاتْfar from possible تُجْحَدْbe denied
وَهَذِي الآلاءُ هَيْهَاتْ تُجْحَدْ
he grants honor just as he grants abundance;
He bestows pride as he bestows abundance
and these blessings can never be denied.
Such favors can never be denied
أَتَرَىdo you see شَعْبَكَyour people الْوَفِيَّloyal وَمَاand what يُبْدِfirst part of 'shows'
أَتَرَى شَعْبَكَ الْوَفِيَّ وَمَا يُبْدِ
يcompletion of 'shows' لِفَارُوقِهِto their Farouk الْعَزِيزِbeloved الْمُؤَيَّدْsupported
ي لِفَارُوقِهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْمُؤَيَّدْ
Do you see your loyal people and what they show
Do you see your loyal people and how they show
to their beloved and supported Farouk?
To their precious victorious king, supported
فِيin قُرَىvillages of الرَّيفِthe countryside حَيْثُwhere طُوِّfirst part of 'you toured'
فِي قُرَى الرَّيفِ حَيْثُ طُوِّ
فْتَcompletion of 'you toured' أَنْغَامَmelodies of سُرُورِjoy إِلىtoward السَّمِاءِthe sky تُصَعَّدْare lifted
فْتَ أَنْغَامَ سُرُورِ إِلى السَّمِاءِ تُصَعَّدْ
In the countryside's villages, where you toured,
In the villages of the countryside, where you let loose
melodies of joy are lifted toward the sky.
Songs of joy rising to the heavens
لَمَسَtouched السِّحرُmagic كُلَّevery بَاكٍweeper فَغَنَّىso he sang
لَمَسَ السِّحرُ كُلَّ بَاكٍ فَغَنَّى
وَشَفَىand healed البِشْرُgladness كُلَّevery شَاكٍsufferer فَغَرَّدْso he warbled
وَشَفَى البِشْرُ كُلَّ شَاكٍ فَغَرَّدْ
Magic touched every weeper, and he sang;
Magic touched every weeping soul, so they sang
and gladness healed every sufferer, and he warbled.
Joy cured every complaining soul, so they chirped
عَجبَmarveled النَّاسُthe people أَنَّthat مَنْone whom يَرْfirst part of 'raises'
عَجبَ النَّاسُ أَنَّ مَنْ يَرْ
فَعُcompletion of 'raises' العَرْشَthe throne عَنْabove النَّاسِthe people بَيْنَهُمْamong them يَتَرَدْدَّmoves about
فَعُ العَرْشَ عَنْ النَّاسِ بَيْنَهُمْ يَتَرَدْدَّ
The people marveled that one whom

لَمْnot يَخَالواthey imagined عِنَايَةَprovidence of اللهِGod حَلَّتْalighted

وَهْيَwhile it was مِنْهُمْof them بِمَسْمَعٍwithin hearing وَبِمَشْهَدْand within sight
وَهْيَ مِنْهُمْ بِمَسْمَعٍ وَبِمَشْهَدْ
They could not believe God's providence had alighted,
They did not miss God's grace descending
though it was within their hearing and sight.
Upon them, visibly and tangibly
مَلِكٌa king مِنْfrom عَلٍon high أَطَلَّappeared عَلَيْهِمْto them
مَلِكٌ مِنْ عَلٍ أَطَلَّ عَلَيْهِمْ
فَإِذَاso, behold كُلُّevery غَمَّةsorrow تَتَبَدَّدْdisperses
فَإِذَا كُلُّ غَمَّة تَتَبَدَّدْ
A king appeared to them from on high,
A king from the most high looked upon them
and behold, every sorrow disperses.
And suddenly every gloom dissipated
وَإِذَاand behold الصُّبحُthe morning بَهْجَةٌdelight وَرَبِيعٌand spring
وَإِذَا الصُّبحُ بَهْجَةٌ وَرَبِيعٌ
وَإِذَاand behold اللَيْلُthe night زَيْنَةٌadornment تَتَوَقَّدْblazes
وَإِذَا اللَيْلُ زَيْنَةٌ تَتَوَقَّدْ
And behold, the morning is delight and spring;
And suddenly the dawn was exhilarating and like spring
and behold, the night is an adornment ablaze.
And suddenly the night was adorned and illuminated
يَاO بَنِيsons of مِصْرَEgypt قَدْindeed رُزِقْتُمْyou have been granted مَلِيكاًa king
يَا بَنِي مِصْرَ قَدْ رُزِقْتُمْ مَلِيكاً
هْوَhe بِالنُّبلِin nobility وَالْمُروءَةِand chivalry أَوْحَدْpeerless
هْوَ بِالنُّبلِ وَالْمُروءَةِ أَوْحَدْ
O sons of Egypt, you have been granted a king
O people of Egypt, you have been granted a king
who is peerless in nobility and chivalry.
Unique in nobility and chivalry
أَثَرُmark of الْخَيْرِgoodness مِنْهُfrom him فيin كُلِّevery مُجْنَىorchard
أَثَرُ الْخَيْرِ مِنْهُ في كُلِّ مُجْنَى
أَثَرُmark of البِرِّbenevolence مِنْهُfrom him فِيin كُلِّevery مَعْهَدْplace of learning
أَثَرُ البِرِّ مِنْهُ فِي كُلِّ مَعْهَدْ
The mark of his goodness is in every orchard;
The impact of his goodness is in every place
the mark of his benevolence is in every place of learning.
The trace of his righteousness is in every covenant
كُلُّevery رَيْعٍhill وَكُلُّand every نَجْعٍhamlet جَنُوباًin the south
كُلُّ رَيْعٍ وَكُلُّ نَجْعٍ جَنُوباً
وَشِمَالاًand in the north بِذَلِكَto that الفَضْلِbounty يَشْهَدْbears witness
وَشِمَالاً بِذَلِكَ الفَضْلِ يَشْهَدْ
Every hill and every hamlet, in the south
Every farmland and every settlement in the south
and in the north, bears witness to that bounty.
And north bears witness to that bounty
مَنْwho سِوَاهُother than him بِيَقْظَةٍwith vigilance وَحَنَانٍand tenderness
مَنْ سِوَاهُ بِيَقْظَةٍ وَحَنَانٍ
كُلُّevery آنٍmoment لِشَعْبِهِfor his people يَتَعَهَّدْtakes care
كُلُّ آنٍ لِشَعْبِهِ يَتَعَهَّدْ
Who but he, with vigilance and tenderness,
Who but him is vigilantly caring
attends to his people every moment?
Every moment for his people, obligated?
هَلْquestion marker رَأَيْتُمْyou have seen أَبَرًّmore devoted مِنْهُthan him وَلِيّاًa guardian
هَلْ رَأَيْتُمْ أَبَرًّ مِنْهُ وَلِيّاً
لأَمانيto the hopes of أَهْلِهِhis people يَتَفَقَّدْhe attends
لأَماني أَهْلِهِ يَتَفَقَّدْ
Have you seen a guardian more devoted than he,
Have you seen one more dutiful than him
watching over his people's hopes?
Looking after the hopes of his family attentively?
لَيْسthere is no فِيon الأَرْضِthe earth عَادِلُa just man مِنْهُthan him أَرْعَىmore protective
لَيْس فِي الأَرْضِ عَادِلُ مِنْهُ أَرْعَى
لِحُقُوقٍof rights أَوْor عَاهِلُa sovereign مِنْهُthan him أَمْجَدْmore glorious
لِحُقُوقٍ أَوْ عَاهِلُ مِنْهُ أَمْجَدْ
No just man on earth is more protective than he
None on earth dispenses justice like him
of rights, nor any sovereign more glorious than he.
Or rules like him, more glorious
لِيَعِشْmay he live وَلُيُطَاوِلِand may he rival الدَّهْرَTime عُمْراًin lifespan
لِيَعِشْ وَلُيُطَاوِلِ الدَّهْرَ عُمْراً
وَلْتَزَدْهُand may it magnify him العَلْيَاءُlofty glory مَاas يَتَزَيَّدhe grows
وَلْتَزَدْهُ العَلْيَاءُ مَا يَتَزَيَّد
May he live, and rival Time in length of years;
May he live long and have a life as long as time
and may lofty glory magnify him as his years increase.
And may the most high increase however much he increases
