حَيُّوا الرَّئِيسَةَ إنْصَافاً وَتَكْرِمَةً

حَيُّوا الرَّئِيسَةَ إنْصَافاً وَتَكْرِمَةً

يَا حَامِلِينَ لِوَاءَ العِلْمِ وَالأَدَبِ

يَا حَامِلِينَ لِوَاءَ العِلْمِ وَالأَدَبِ

Salute the president, in fairness and honor,

Greet the president with fairness and honor

O bearers of the banner of knowledge and literature,

O you who carry the banner of knowledge and literature

مِنْ نُخْبَةٍ هُمْ فَخَارُ الغَرْب إِنْ نُعِتُوا

مِنْ نُخْبَةٍ هُمْ فَخَارُ الغَرْب إِنْ نُعِتُوا

وَنُخْبَةٍ هُمْ فَخَارُ الشَّرْقِ وَالعَرَبَ

وَنُخْبَةٍ هُمْ فَخَارُ الشَّرْقِ وَالعَرَبَ

From an elite who, when described, are the pride of the West,

Among an elite who are the pride of the West when named

And an elite who are the pride of the East and the Arabs.

And an elite who are the pride of the East and Arabs

حَيُّوا فَتَاةً أَتّمَّ اللهُ زَينَتَهَا

حَيُّوا فَتَاةً أَتّمَّ اللهُ زَينَتَهَا

خَلْقاً وَخُلْقاً بِمَا يَسْمُو عَنِ الرِّيَبِ

خَلْقاً وَخُلْقاً بِمَا يَسْمُو عَنِ الرِّيَبِ

Salute a young woman whose beauty God has perfected,

Greet a young woman whom God has perfected her adornment

In form and character, in ways that rise above suspicion.

In nature and morals with what rises above doubt

تَمُرُّ بِاللَّهْوِ لاَ تُغْرَى بِزُخْرُفِهِ

تَمُرُّ بِاللَّهْوِ لاَ تُغْرَى بِزُخْرُفِهِ

وَتُنْفِقُ العُمْرُ بَيْنَ الصُّحْفِ وَالكُتُبِ

وَتُنْفِقُ العُمْرُ بَيْنَ الصُّحْفِ وَالكُتُبِ

She passes by amusement, untempted by its glitter,

She passes by vanity not tempted by its ornamentation

And spends her life among newspapers and books,

And spends her time between books and manuscripts

حَتَّى غَدَتْ قُدْوَةً فِي العَصْرِ صَالِحَةٍ

حَتَّى غَدَتْ قُدْوَةً فِي العَصْرِ صَالِحَةٍ

لِلْغَانِيَاتِ ذَوَاتِ الجِدِّ وَالدَّأَبِ

لِلْغَانِيَاتِ ذَوَاتِ الجِدِّ وَالدَّأَبِ

Till she became a worthy example in this age

Until she became an exemplar in the era of righteousness

For beautiful women endowed with earnestness and diligence.

For the young women of dedication and diligence

بَدَتْ مِنَ الخِدْرِ وَالعَلْيَاءُ عَاصِمَةٌ

بَدَتْ مِنَ الخِدْرِ وَالعَلْيَاءُ عَاصِمَةٌ

فَإِنْ يَعِبْ نَجْماً الإِشْرَاقُ فَلْتُعَبِ

فَإِنْ يَعِبْ نَجْماً الإِشْرَاقُ فَلْتُعَبِ

She emerged from the secluded chamber, with lofty honor as her shield;

She appeared protected from corruption and aloofness

So if radiance can blemish a star, let her be faulted.

So if the dawn misses a star, let it miss!

بَيْنَ الصَّوَاحِبِ لاَحَتْ فِي نِظَامِ هُدًى

بَيْنَ الصَّوَاحِبِ لاَحَتْ فِي نِظَامِ هُدًى

فَأَشْهَدَتْنَا نِظَامَ الشَّمسِ عَنْ كَثَبِ

فَأَشْهَدَتْنَا نِظَامَ الشَّمسِ عَنْ كَثَبِ

Among her companions she shone in an array of guidance,

Among friends she shone with a system of guidance

And so she showed us the solar system close at hand.

Thus she showed us the system of the steadfast sun

وَمَا هُدى حِينَ تَجْلُو عَنْ أَشِعَّتِهَا

وَمَا هُدى حِينَ تَجْلُو عَنْ أَشِعَّتِهَا

إِلاَّ مُحَيَّا ذُكَاءٍ غَيْرَ مُنْتَقَبِ

إِلاَّ مُحَيَّا ذُكَاءٍ غَيْرَ مُنْتَقَبِ

And Huda, when she unveils her rays, is none other

And what guidance is there when it unveils from its rays

Than the unveiled face of Dhuka, the sun.

Except praise for untainted intelligence?

لَهَا رِسَالَتُهَا العُلْيَا تُنِيرُ بِهَا

لَهَا رِسَالَتُهَا العُلْيَا تُنِيرُ بِهَا

سُبْلَ الحَيَاةِ وَكَيْفَ النُّورُ فِي الحُجُبِ

سُبْلَ الحَيَاةِ وَكَيْفَ النُّورُ فِي الحُجُبِ

She has her lofty mission, with which she lights

She has her supreme message with which she enlightens

The paths of life—and how can light stay behind veils?

The paths of life and how the light penetrates barriers

حِيَالَهَا مِنْ حَوَارِيَّاتَهَا شُهُبٌ

حِيَالَهَا مِنْ حَوَارِيَّاتَهَا شُهُبٌ

أَنْقَى وَأطْهَرُ مِنْ دُرِّيَّة الشُّهبِ

أَنْقَى وَأطْهَرُ مِنْ دُرِّيَّة الشُّهبِ

Before her, among her women disciples, are shooting stars,

Facing her, from her disciples, are comets

Purer and more spotless than pearl-bright shooting stars.

Purer and more immaculate than pearls

يَمْضِينَ فِي طَلَبِ الغَايَاتِ قَاصِيَةً

يَمْضِينَ فِي طَلَبِ الغَايَاتِ قَاصِيَةً

فَمَا يَنِيْنَ وَمَا يَشْكُونَ مِنْ نَصَبِ

فَمَا يَنِيْنَ وَمَا يَشْكُونَ مِنْ نَصَبِ

They advance in pursuit of far-off goals,

They go seeking goals resolutely

And so they neither slacken nor complain of weariness.

Without complaining or moaning from effort

هُمُ الطَّليعَةُ تَغْزُو غَيْرَ آثِمَةٍ

هُمُ الطَّليعَةُ تَغْزُو غَيْرَ آثِمَةٍ

كَتَائِبَ الجَهْلِ فِي حَرْبٍ بِلاَ حَرَبِ

كَتَائِبَ الجَهْلِ فِي حَرْبٍ بِلاَ حَرَبِ

They are the vanguard, blamelessly attacking

They are the vanguard invading without sin

The battalions of ignorance in a war without plunder.

The regiments of ignorance in a war without war

مَنْ يَنْسى إِنْ ذُكِرَتْ مِصْرٌ وَنَهْضَتُهَا

مَنْ يَنْسى إِنْ ذُكِرَتْ مِصْرٌ وَنَهْضَتُهَا

عَوْنَ النَّجيبَاتِ لِلصُّبابَةِ النُّجبِ

عَوْنَ النَّجيبَاتِ لِلصُّبابَةِ النُّجبِ

Who forgets, when Egypt and her revival are mentioned,

Who can forget, if Egypt and its renaissance are mentioned

The noble women's aid to the distinguished elite?

The aid of the honorable young women to the esteemed youth

تِلْكَ المُشَارَكَةُ الحُسْنَى يُنَاطُ بِهَا

تِلْكَ المُشَارَكَةُ الحُسْنَى يُنَاطُ بِهَا

رَجَاؤُنَا فِي مَعَالِينَافَلاَ يَخِبِ

رَجَاؤُنَا فِي مَعَالِينَافَلاَ يَخِبِ

To that excellent partnership is entrusted

That excellent participation, our hopes are entrusted with it

Our hope for our lofty attainments—may it not fail.

In our aspirations, may it not disappoint!
