Salute Kinana on the morning of her independence,

And praise the valor of the proud among her heroes.

That treaty whose attainment lay so far away—

Their efforts brought its distant attainment near.

It was inscribed with drops shed by her young men's hearts,

And with like drops shed by the minds of her men.

Tell those who deliberately sought to annul it:

Do not go too far; what gain lies in annulling it?

They seek to hasten all their demands,

Yet the haste they seek is hard to achieve.

Win the wish that has come within your reach,

And make whatever preparations you can to complete it.

And if you would do right by a shackled nation,

Then sound resolve lies in freeing her from her chains.

Are the allies' stances toward honoring her

Like the enemies' stances toward humiliating her?

An opportunity has arisen; of no avail would be

Regret that crushes the heart after its passing.

    هَلْ كَانَ حُسْنُ الرَّأْيِ فِي إِغْفَالِهَا

    It arose while the days were heedless of it;

Was sound judgment to be found in overlooking it?

Politics is rugged, and its practice

Is difficult; the valley of wandering lies in its skirts.

There is no safety from missteps when whim is the judge

In distinguishing its right course from its error.

But an elite guided Kinana through it,

Their forays in its arena having proved their worth.

The radiant front is nothing but a chosen band

That gathered its resolve for the day of its struggle:

Of every awe-inspiring, valiant man, every seasoned veteran,

    Well-practiced, and every binder and unbinder of knots;

And every cultivated, steadfast man, every resourceful champion,

    Who tracks uncertainties through their wanderings;

And every man armed with judgment, never at a loss

    For the answer to any difficult problem;

And every man who guards, in himself and his country,

    The obligations of high honor, holding fast to its cords;

And every man accustomed, when plunging into any ordeal,

To heed it not, despite its terrors.

Kinana shot, when she aimed at her targets,

With them; thus they became her unerring arrows.

Had she inclined toward forsaking them,

The just among mankind would have joined her reproachers.

A victory that victories will follow, and a resolve

Whose first stirrings carried a pledge of its outcome.

Through it she entered the gate of life and prepared

For glory what it hopes for on the day of her onslaught,

With those of her names that live forever in memory,

And those of her deeds whose effects endure.

    فَاظْنُنْ بِطِيبِ البَثِّ يَوْمَ وِصَالِهَا

    She is a nation enamored of her freedoms;

So imagine the sweet outpouring on the day of her union.

Yesterday she showed the leader her feelings

In adornment captivating in its beauty.

Had she compared her other festivals with it,

Those festivals would not have been its equal.

And today her representatives' two councils spoke plainly

Of her views; both are tongues that voice her condition.

So her will emerged, and plain became what she deems

A duty upon her, after her tether was untied.

Would she accord with the days in their retreat,

Yet oppose the days in their advance?

O Saad, your glorious deeds in her eyes rise beyond

The most eloquent praise her words can offer.

    فَخُذِ الثَّنَاءَ اليَوْمَ مِنْ أَعْمَالِهَا

    You knew her yesterday, when that was her utmost effort;

So take your praise today from her deeds.

Look down upon her, smiling and radiant,

From where the bright stars appear in their rising.

And before you stand the martyrs among her lions,

And before you the martyrs among her lion cubs:

Chosen from the noble chosen, whose end was hastened

For the sake of this day, before their appointed time.

And look upon faithful Egypt, well pleased

With the fresh qualities you see in her.

I awakened her, and after her rising you remained

The emblem of her might and the symbol of her majesty.

So if she has kept you before her eyes,

Then your visible likeness is her very ideal.

And if she has built you a resting place within her breast,

Then it is a treasure offered to her generations.

If the sun sets, one draws light from a flame

Whose secret of kindling lies with immortality.

From itself and by itself it blazes, so it does not

Perish, nor does its hidden wick burn away.

Far be it that Egypt should forget you; you were,

O her Saad, none but the fulfiller of her good omen.

You left your Mustafa in her midst, and whenever

She witnessed his stands, you came to her mind.

He discharged the trust in claiming her right,

And demanded fulfillment from the days after their delays.

Are you two anything but the leaders of her people,

And her guides upon the path to her perfection?

Two beacons: if she has valued your qualities, she has

Valued, without error, her own noblest qualities.

O holder of the presidencies that have cast over

    Kinana's valley their luxuriant shade,

May your Lord preserve you! How can one's powers shoulder

The least of the burdens you have been made to bear?

    أَتُطِيقُ مَا تَبْلُوهُ فِي أَشْغَالِهَا

    A single task weakens a young man's heart;

Can you endure what you encounter in her labors?

But a soul you trained in your struggle,

Through events, both light and heavy,

You refined as the most precious jewel is refined,

Amid the oppression and scourging of every calamity.

And thus you showed the country your reach in

Fulfilling the hopes she had unfolded.

Today all her affairs lie in your hands,

And this is the moment of decision for her future.

Let the days witness the rebirth of her sun,

And let the shade of her crescent flood the horizons.
