Rejoice in your lofty rank, and may it be gladdened
I congratulate you on your high rank, which is also congratulated,
By the prestige and honor it has gained through you.
For what you have achieved with it of glory and honor,
بِبَعْضِfor part of مَاwhat لَكَbelongs to you مِنْof فضْلٍmerit رَفَعْتَyou raised بِهِby it

مَكَانَ قَوْمِكَ أَيُّ التَّكْرِمَاتِ يَفِي
For even part of your merit, by which you raised
With some of your excellence you have raised
Your people's standing—what honors could suffice?
The status of your people - which honor is more perfect?

وَأَنْزَهَ الخَلْقِ عَنْ زَهْوٍ وَعَنْ صَلَفِ
O most distinguished of humankind in learning and deeds,
O most perceptive of creation in knowledge and in action,
And, of all humankind, the freest from vanity and arrogance.
And most detached from vanity and arrogance,
ثَأَرْتَyou avenged لِلشَّرْقِfor the East مِنْagainst دَهْرٍan age قَضَاهُit passed through it وَلاَand no

You avenged the East against an age it endured, with no
You have avenged the East for an era that passed it by
Remembrance of it save what is told of the forebears.
With no memory of it except what is told of past generations.

دَاءٌ تَدَارَكْتَهُ مُسْتَعصِياً فَشُفِي
And its realm of glory had been afflicted
And the aspect of glory - it was afflicted
By an intractable illness; you came to its aid, so it was healed.
With an illness you strove to remedy though difficult, and it was healed,

You attained what the brilliant minds had not attained among
You accomplished what the eminent could not accomplish
A people; you surpassed them, racing ahead, and did not stop.
Among a people you surpassed in excellence and did not stop,

And after enduring hardship you chose no diversion
Except by reviving the remnants of art and treasures.
Except by reviving remnants of art and masterpieces

Of every source of pride - had the hand of Providence
By providence's hand, would not have escaped destruction.
Not strengthened them, they would not have escaped ruin.

Of every kind, distinct in beauty yet harmonious.
From every type, beautifully harmonious and well-proportioned.
