    Peace, O you returning from the struggle!

    Serenity has returned, and the days have grown fair.

    وَالْيَوْمَ أَجْنَتْ شُهْدَهَا الآلامُ

    Yesterday you swallowed suffering's bitter sap;

    And today those pains have yielded their honey.

    How much you endured, yet never wavered,

    In pursuit of what you sought, though the trials were immense.

    You fulfilled the greatest wish, without

    Armies being sent forth or a sword being drawn.

    Faith urges you onward, and faith, if

    It is sincere, has boldness as its constant companion.

    لا خَوْفَ يَنْقُصُهُ وَلا اسْتِسْلامُ

    You sought the country's right in full;

    Neither fear nor surrender diminished it.

    And God granted you success—a victory

    To whose grandeur the peoples bore witness for you.

    O Mustafa of Egypt, exalted in station,

    No station can ever replace what you have attained.

    I knew for certain, when I saw what you accomplished

    In defending her, that you were the lion.

    You strove until the quiver was left without

    An arrow—and among the arguments of one in the right are arrows.

    فَاليَوْمَ تَكْرِيمٌ وَأَمْسِ خِصَامُ

    And you wrested the admiration of those you negotiated with;

    So today, honor; and yesterday, strife.

    No wonder that in Egypt you receive a welcome

    Which pens fell short of describing in full.

    At sea or on land, decorations stretch to

    The farthest extent, with gatherings and throngs.

    And the falcons fold up the sky, and beneath them

    In every stretch of air the banners flutter.

    Countless groups, in their rush,

    Clustered about your procession, with loyalty their order.

    إِكْفَاؤُهُ الإِكْبَارُ وَالإِعْظَامُ

    You achieved a great victory for the country;

    Its recompense is esteem and reverence.

    With your trusted men, illustrious and blessed, who

    Accompanied you, no goal proved too hard for you.

    They bore the trust, itself an exhausting burden

    That mountains cannot carry; and they rose.

    With their steadfastness, their forbearance, and their knowledge,

    They did the deeds of an army, vast and mighty.

    Can brevity help in portraying them?

    Oh, how distant the height to which the painter aspires!
