بِهذَاon this اليَوْمِthe day حُقِّقwas fulfilled مَاwhat تَمَنَّتْhad wished for
نُفُوسُsouls الْعُرْبِthe Arabs دَهْراًfor an age بعْدَafter دَهْرِan age
On this day was fulfilled what had been wished for
On this day the dreams of the Arabs throughout ages were fulfilled
By Arab souls, age after age.
No day in history was ever honored with such glorification and pride
فَمَاso how أَحْرَاهُworthy it is فِيin التّارِيخِhistory يَوْماًas a day
بِتَبْجِيلٍfor reverence يُخَصis singled out بِهِwith it وَفَخْرِand pride
So how worthy it is, as a day in history,
The kings of Dhad and leaders all came as guests
Of being singled out for reverence and pride!
In the halls of the King of Egypt
مُلُوكُkings الضَّادِḍād (the Arabic tongue) وَالرُّؤَسَاءُand the presidents حَلُّواhave arrived
ضُيُوفاًas guests فِيin رِحَابِthe spacious precincts of مَلِيكِthe king of مِصْرِEgypt
The kings of ḍād and the presidents have arrived
And they were all brothers meeting brothers
As guests in the spacious court of Egypt's king.
For a covenant that confirms and declares
وَكُلُّهُمُand each of them أَخُa brother يَلْقَىmeets أَخاهُhis brother
لِمِيثاقٍfor a covenant يُؤَكِّدُهُhe strengthens it وَأَصْرِand a bond
And each is a brother meeting his brother,
O heroes of Arabism, if you thanked
To strengthen a covenant and a bond.
Who is more deserving of thanks than you?
أَأَبْطَالَO heroes of الْعُرُوبَةِArabhood إِنْif أَشَادَتْshe proclaims
بِشُكْرِكُمُwith thanks to you فَمَنْthen who أَوْلَىmore deserving بِشُكْرِof thanks
O heroes of Arabhood, if she proclaims
Shall we forget all the pain you endured
Her thanks to you, then who is worthier of thanks?
In secret and openly?
أَنَنْسىshall we forget? كُلَّall مَاthat كابَدْتُمُوهُyou endured it
مِنَof الآلامِsufferings فِيin سِرٍّprivate وجَهْرِand public
Shall we forget all that you endured
Your actions rightly astounded us
Of suffering, in private and in public?
It is our duty to preserve them in every heart
لَقَدْindeed رَاعَتْinspired awe فِعالُكُمُyour deeds فحَقٌّso it is a duty
عَلَيْنَاupon us حِفْظُهَاpreserving them فِيin كلِّevery صَدرِbreast
Your deeds have indeed inspired awe; it is a duty
The era of discord is over, never to return
Upon us to preserve them in every breast.
And this heralds the dawn of the age of harmony
مَضَىhas passed عَصْرُthe age of الشَّتَاتِdisunity لِغَيْرِwith no عَوْدٍreturn
وهَذَاand this لِلتآلُفَfor concord بَدْءُthe beginning of عَصْرِan age
The age of disunity has passed, never to return,
The lands of Dhad are in a joyous celebration
And this is the beginning of an age of concord.
Ease has arrived after hardship
بِلاَدُthe lands of الضَّادِḍād (the Arabic tongue) فِيin عِيدٍa festival عَمِيمٍall-embracing

The lands of ḍād are in a festival shared by all,
And these flags are but the first
Hailing the ease that has come after hardship.
Symbols of its triumph
وَلَيْسَتْand are not هَذِهِthese الأَعْلاَمُthe banners إِلاَّexcept

And these banners are none other than
To congratulate each of you, high in rank
Banners of victory, as in their earliest days.
Whose merits have earned him the highest esteem

May each of you of high standing be gladdened
And to congratulate the Lord of the Nile Valley
By virtues that have brought him the noblest rank.
Where glory eternalized in fame resides

مَكَانُa place of تَجِلَّةٍreverence وَخُلُودُand immortality of ذِكْرِremembrance
And may the lord of the Nile Valley be gladdened therein
For the Arab League, your guidance is a bounty
By a place of reverence and undying remembrance.
And the sincerity of your support is a treasure
لِجَامِعَةِfor the League of العُرُوبَةِArabhood مِنْfrom هُدَاكُمْyour guidance

For the Arab League, in your guidance
A system long hoped for by its people
And in sincere assistance, what a treasure!
In every region has been realized after so long
نِظَامٌa system كَانَwas مِنْsince قِدَمٍlong ago رَجَاءًa hope

A system that had long been a hope
It is now stronger than ever
Pervading its people in every land,
As a tool for lasting peace
تَحَقَّقhas become reality بَعْدَafter لأَيٍhardship فَهْوَso it is أَقْوَىthe strongest
أَدَاةٍinstrument للسَّلاَمِfor peace المُسْتَقِرِّlasting
Has become reality after hardship; it is the strongest
It brings the glad tidings of all good through cooperation
Instrument for lasting peace.
And wards off all evil through understanding
يُبَشِّرُheralds بِالتَّآزُرِthrough mutual support كُلَّevery خيْرٍgood
وَيدْفَعُand repels بِالتنَاظُرِthrough debate كُلَّevery شَرِّevil
It heralds all good through mutual support,
Its victorious past has lost none of its sharpness
And wards off all evil through debate.
If opinion fails to deter deceit
وَمَاand no فِيin سَيْفِهِits sword الْمَاضِيkeen كَلاَلٌdullness
إِذَاwhen لَمْnot يُغْنِsuffices رَأْيٌcounsel عَنْin place of مَكَرِّa charge in battle
And there is no dullness in its keen sword,
March on, we follow in your steps
When counsel cannot replace a charge in battle.
Truth prevails over all
فَسِيرُواso march on إِنَّناindeed we نَقْفُوfollow خُطَاكُمْyour footsteps
وَأَمْرُand the cause of الْحَقِّright يَعْلُوrises above كلَّevery أَمْرِcause
So march on; indeed, we follow in your footsteps,
If our dignity is sold, upon us
And the cause of right rises above every cause.
With our souls and specters do we take revenge
إِذَاif بِيعَتْis sold كرَامَتُنَاour dignity عَلَيْنَاto us
فَبِالأَرْوَاحِthen with souls وَالأَشْبَاحِand bodies نَشْرِيwe buy
If our dignity is offered to us for sale,
Of no value are life and its comforts
Then with our souls and bodies we shall buy it.
Without a free and glorious homeland
وَمَاand what نِعَمُthe blessings of الحَيَاةِlife وَمَاand what مُنَاهَاits hopes
بِلاَwithout وَطَنٍa homeland عَزِيزِexalted in الشأْنِstanding حُرِّfree
And what are life's blessings, and what are its hopes,
Without a homeland, exalted in standing and free?
