يا رِفْقَةً كُلُّهُمْ أَدِيبٌ

يا رِفْقَةً كُلُّهُمْ أَدِيبٌ

وَكُلُّهُمْ فاضِلٌ مُهَذَّبْ

وَكُلُّهُمْ فاضِلٌ مُهَذَّبْ

O company, every one a man of letters,

O company, all of them are learned

And every one virtuous and refined;

And all of them are virtuous and refined

مِنْ رَجُلٍ كَامِلِ اخْتِبَارٍ

مِنْ رَجُلٍ كَامِلِ اخْتِبَارٍ

قَوَّمَهُ دَهْرُهُ وَأَدَّبْ

قَوَّمَهُ دَهْرُهُ وَأَدَّبْ

From a man seasoned in experience,

From a complete and tested man

Whom his years have set straight and schooled,

Whose life has straightened and disciplined him

وَنَابِتٍ نَبْتُهُ زَكِيٌّ

وَنَابِتٍ نَبْتُهُ زَكِيٌّ

أَصْلَحَ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ وشَذَّبْ

أَصْلَحَ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ وشَذَّبْ

To a young shoot whose growth is pure,

And whose growth is pure

Who has bettered himself and pruned himself.

Who has reformed himself and trained

حِرْفَتُكُمْ آيَةُ اللَّيَالِي

حِرْفَتُكُمْ آيَةُ اللَّيَالِي

فِي خَيْرِ مَا أَحْدَثَتْ وَأَعْجَبْ

فِي خَيْرِ مَا أَحْدَثَتْ وَأَعْجَبْ

Your calling is a marvel of the nights,

Your craft is the sign of the nights

Among the finest and most wondrous things they have brought forth:

In the best of what it has created and amazed

إِحْدَى الْقُوَى الأَرْبَعِ اللَّوَاتِي

إِحْدَى الْقُوَى الأَرْبَعِ اللَّوَاتِي

فِي الخَلْقِ سُلْطَانُهَا تَغَلَّبْ

فِي الخَلْقِ سُلْطَانُهَا تَغَلَّبْ

One of the four powers whose

Dominion has prevailed among humankind.

Whose authority in creation has prevailed

رَاضَتْ مِنَ الْحُكْمِ مَا يُنَافِي

رَاضَتْ مِنَ الْحُكْمِ مَا يُنَافِي

حُرِّيَّة النَّاسِ رُوْضَ مُصْعَبْ

حُرِّيَّة النَّاسِ رُوْضَ مُصْعَبْ

It has tamed whatever in government opposes

It has accepted from governance what contradicts

The people's freedom, as one tames an unbroken mount;

The people's freedom, a thorny meadow

وَأَبْلَغَتْ كُلَّ ذِي أَنَاةٍ

وَأَبْلَغَتْ كُلَّ ذِي أَنَاةٍ

تَطَلَّبَ الْحَقُّ مَا تَطَلَّبْ

تَطَلَّبَ الْحَقُّ مَا تَطَلَّبْ

And it has brought every patient person

And has conveyed to all who are deliberate

Who sought the truth to what he sought.

What truth has sought to convey

أَنْتُمْ مَنَارُ النُّهى إِذَا مَا

أَنْتُمْ مَنَارُ النُّهى إِذَا مَا

سَطَا بِهَا وَاكْفَهَرَّ غَيْهَبْ

سَطَا بِهَا وَاكْفَهَرَّ غَيْهَبْ

You are the beacon of reason whenever

You are the beacon of prohibition when

Deep darkness assails it and grows grim.

The darkness has spread and the clouds have rumbled

إِنِ اتَّفقْتُمْ أَوِ اخْتَلَفْتُمْ

إِنِ اتَّفقْتُمْ أَوِ اخْتَلَفْتُمْ

لِلْخَيْرِ سَهْمٌ فِي كُلِّ مَذْهَبْ

لِلْخَيْرِ سَهْمٌ فِي كُلِّ مَذْهَبْ

Whether you agree or disagree,

Whether you agree or differ

Goodness has a share in every school of thought.

There is a share in every doctrine for the good

أَضْوَاؤُكُمْ فِي الْعُيُونِ شَتَّى

أَضْوَاؤُكُمْ فِي الْعُيُونِ شَتَّى

وَكُلُّ تِلْكَ الأَضْوَاءِ كَوْكَبْ

وَكُلُّ تِلْكَ الأَضْوَاءِ كَوْكَبْ

Your lights are varied in the eyes,

Your lights are diverse in the eyes

And each of those lights is a star.

And each of those lights is a star
