Nahhas's resolves—when you draw near them,

through them you revive resolves, though they are dust.

A towering peak; beside his lofty height,

the peaks bow low, even their finest.

His comrades are the finest comrades; through men like him

and men like them, nations gain their freedom.

Tell those escorted in procession to Seychelles:

Glory such as this is beyond attainment.

The crushing weight of what you were made to bear—and bore!

The great are great through only a fraction of that.

O defenders of Egypt and seekers of its independence,

in the days when death charged, swift and grim,

and you who overcame love of life to attain

that goal—has any goal surpassed it?

You have been well rewarded; through your endurance has returned,

renewed, what the oppressors tore down.

And into shining splendors and blessings were transformed

    those black nights and sorrows.

History will immortalize the glory of your struggle,

and it shall endure through the passing ages.

And as the finest symbolic image

of your struggle, a statue of Saad will be raised.

And a tomb will keep inspiring mighty deeds,

its treasure a skull and bones.

Today is a festival; we have breathed its fragrance

from where the flower buds disclosed its secret.

And were it to reveal its beauties, no

medal could match the medal of beauty it wears.

    وَهْوَ الحَلالُ وَمَا عَدَاهُ حَرامُ

    In its honoree's heart is a love that engrosses him;

and it is lawful; all beyond it is forbidden.

His country's affairs concern him, not himself,

and by this, in his eyes, days differ in worth.

O day of Mustafa's birth, on you there rose

over Egypt's horizon a smiling star,

when Saad, its luckiest star, was at his zenith,

and his follower had a radiance to be coveted.

When at last the leader departed, darkness did not prevail

    over Egypt's light after him.
