هَلْ آيَةٌ في السِّلْمِ وَالْحَرْبِ
تُعْدِلُequals نَشْرَspreading الْعِلْمِknowledge فيamong الشَّعْبِthe people
تُعْدِلُ نَشْرَ الْعِلْمِ في الشَّعْبِ
Is there any marvel in peace or war
Is there any sign in peace or war
To equal spreading knowledge among the people?
That equals spreading knowledge amongst the people?
فَإِنَّfor indeed مِنْamong مُعْجِزِهِits miracles كُلَّall مَاthat
فَإِنَّ مِنْ مُعْجِزِهِ كُلَّ مَا
نُكْبِرُهُwe admire it فيin الشَّرْقِthe East وَالغَرْبِand the West
نُكْبِرُهُ في الشَّرْقِ وَالغَرْبِ
For among its miracles is all that
For all we extol it in East and West
We admire in the East and the West.
Are but miracles from it, each and every one
يَاO نُصَرَاءَchampions الْعِلْمِknowledge شُكْرُthe gratitude النُّهَىintellects
يَا نُصَرَاءَ الْعِلْمِ شُكْرُ النُّهَى
لَكُمْto you كَشُكْرِlike the gratitude الرَّوْضِthe garden لِلسُّحُبِto the clouds
لَكُمْ كَشُكْرِ الرَّوْضِ لِلسُّحُبِ
O champions of knowledge, the gratitude of minds
O you who support knowledge, gratitude to guidance
Is yours, like the garden's gratitude to the clouds.
Is like the meadow’s gratitude for clouds
مِصْرُEgypt تُحَيِّيكُمْgreets you وَتُثْنِيand praises عَلَىupon
مِصْرُ تُحَيِّيكُمْ وَتُثْنِي عَلَى
كُلِّevery جَوَادٍgenerous person مَاجِدٍnoble نَدْبِgallant
كُلِّ جَوَادٍ مَاجِدٍ نَدْبِ
Egypt greets you and praises

Every generous, noble, gallant man.
Every generous, glorious volunteer
تُثْنِيpraises وَتَرْعَىand cherishes بِعُيُونِwith eyes الرِّضَاapproval
تُثْنِي وَتَرْعَى بِعُيُونِ الرِّضَا
جُهْدَthe effort الرِّجَالِthe men الصُّبُرِsteadfast الْغُلْبِmighty
جُهْدَ الرِّجَالِ الصُّبُرِ الْغُلْبِ

The labor of steadfast, mighty men.

مِصْرُEgypt الَّتِيwhich فِيهَاin it الْهُدَىguidance وَالنَّدَىand generosity

يَسْتَبِقَانِthe two race المَجْدَglory مِنْfrom قُرْبِnearness

تُعْطِيgives النُّهَىintellects بِالْعَذْبِwith the sweet water مِنْfrom نِيلِهَاher Nile

حَظَّthe share الثَّرَىthe soil مِنْfrom نِيلِهَاher Nile الْعَذْبِsweet
حَظَّ الثَّرَى مِنْ نِيلِهَا الْعَذْبِ
Gives minds, through the sweet waters of her Nile,
It gives advice with the sweetness of its Nile
The share the soil receives from her sweet Nile;
As the earth gains sweetness from its Nile
وتَحْفَظُand preserves الْحُسْنَىkindness لأَرْبَابِهَاfor those who bestow it
وتَحْفَظُ الْحُسْنَى لأَرْبَابِهَا
فيin حَاضِرِthe present الْوَقْتِtime وَفِيand in الْعَقْبِthe future
في حَاضِرِ الْوَقْتِ وَفِي الْعَقْبِ
And remembers kindness for those who bestow it,
And preserves goodness for its people
In the present time and in time to come.
In the present time and in future
تَكَامَلِيattain completeness! يَاO دَارَhouse عِلْمٍlearning غَدَتْhas become
تَكَامَلِي يَا دَارَ عِلْمٍ غَدَتْ
لِكُلِّfor every فَضْلٍexcellence مَرْكَزَthe center الْقُطْبِthe pivot
لِكُلِّ فَضْلٍ مَرْكَزَ الْقُطْبِ
Reach perfection, O house of learning that has become
My completeness, O land of knowledge you have become
The central pivot for every excellence.
The center of every virtue
كُلِّيَّةٌa college فيin كُلِّevery جُزْءٍpart بِهَاin it
كُلِّيَّةٌ في كُلِّ جُزْءٍ بِهَا
كَنْزٌa treasure مِنَof العِرْفَانِknowledge لِلُّبِّfor the intellect
كَنْزٌ مِنَ العِرْفَانِ لِلُّبِّ

رَاضِيَةً لِلْعَبْدِ وَالرَّبِّ

تَبُثُّspreads فيin العَقلِthe mind نَشَاطَthe vigor المُنَىaspirations

وَتَبْعَثُ النَّجْدَةَ فِي القَلْبِ

It implants vitality of purpose in the mind
And stirs courage in the heart.
And inspires excellence in the heart
لِلشَّعْبِfor the people نَفعٌbenefit جِدُّgenuine نَفْعٍbenefit بِهَاthrough it
لِلشَّعْبِ نَفعٌ جِدُّ نَفْعٍ بِهَا
كَفَاؤُهُits recompense لَيسَis not مِنَof اللِّعْبِplay
كَفَاؤُهُ لَيسَ مِنَ اللِّعْبِ

طَلِعَةً في المَطْلِعِ الصَّعْبِ
And the people's sons have always been our

أَتْعَبَhardest-toiling قُوَّامٍupholders بِمَجدِof the glory الحِمَىthe homeland

فيin سَعَةِthe abundance العَيْشِlivelihood وَفِيand in الكَرْبِdistress

In prosperity and in hardship
مَهْمَاhowever much يُعِنْهُمْhelp them مُوسِرُوthe wealthy قَوْمِهِمْtheir people
مَهْمَا يُعِنْهُمْ مُوسِرُو قَوْمِهِمْ
فَالفَضْلُso the merit فيon جَانِبِهِمْtheir side مُرْبِيgreater
فَالفَضْلُ في جَانِبِهِمْ مُرْبِي
However much the wealthy of their people help them,
However much the wealthy of a people assist them
The greater merit remains on their side.
The credit is on their side, nurturing
لَكِنَّنَاbut we فيin زَمَنِan age حَائِرٍbewildered
لَكِنَّنَا في زَمَنِ حَائِرٍ
أُخْطِيءَwas misjudged فيهِin it مَوْضِعُthe place العُجْبِpride
أُخْطِيءَ فيهِ مَوْضِعُ العُجْبِ
But we are in a bewildered age
But we are in a confused time
Where the grounds for pride have been misjudged.
Where misplaced is the object of pride
فَأَوْجَبَso made obligatory الشُّكْرَgratitude لأَدْنَىfor the slightest النَّدَىgenerosity
فَأَوْجَبَ الشُّكْرَ لأَدْنَى النَّدَى
مَاthat which جَعَلَmade الفَقْرَpoverty مِنَamong الذَّنْبِsins
مَا جَعَلَ الفَقْرَ مِنَ الذَّنْبِ
So thanks for the slightest generosity were demanded

بَدَتْappeared عَلَيْهِupon it نُقْطَةُthe mark الشَّغْبِunrest
بَدَتْ عَلَيْهِ نُقْطَةُ الشَّغْبِ
And if the people's ignorance long endures,
And if the people's ignorance stretches long
The mark of unrest appears upon them.
The point of discontent appears in them
أَبْهَجْhow delightful! بِهَاit is لَيْلَةَa night أُنْسٍfellowship زَهَتْwas resplendent
أَبْهَجْ بِهَا لَيْلَةَ أُنْسٍ زَهَتْ
مُضَاءَةًilluminated بِالسَّادَةِby the dignitaries الشُّهْبِradiant
مُضَاءَةً بِالسَّادَةِ الشُّهْبِ
How delightful this night of fellowship, resplendent,
With it light up a night of intimacy that shone
Illuminated by the radiant dignitaries!
Illuminated by venerable elders
بُورِكَmay blessings be bestowed فِيupon دَاعٍone who invites إِلَيْهَاto it وَفِيand upon
بُورِكَ فِي دَاعٍ إِلَيْهَا وَفِي
سَاعٍone who strives إلىtoward الإِحْسَانِbenevolence عَنْout of حُبِّlove
سَاعٍ إلى الإِحْسَانِ عَنْ حُبِّ
Blessed be whoever invites others to it, and whoever
Blessings upon one who calls to it and upon
Strives to do good out of love.
