Houses of learning, whenever they seek me

For support, find in me one who answers.

How much more an institute tended by Rushdi,

Who bestows his care upon it in many forms,

With the wisdom of one who readies heads for Egypt,

And one who builds hearts for her glory.

May the All-Merciful grant Husayn the finest reward,

The tactful, discerning head of state.

And may He be for him—this is Egypt's prayer—

A rewarder for the signs of his high resolve.

For she has witnessed your deeds, O her son,

And the least of what she witnessed was wondrous.

Have you not exhausted all excellence upon her?

Then leave others a share of excellence.

And you, O beloved of glory, O you who

Remain dear to every praiseworthy deed,

Like your family, in every grave affair you keep

Mending the breach or bestowing rich bounty.

If you seek the far-off, it is near,

Even if it rises beyond Suha and seems doubtful.

Far from home, you avidly seek the strange,

And attain it, so it is no longer found strange.

Others fail in what they seek,

And what you hope for refuses to fail.

May God preserve you, a star that brings delight

With its rising, and guard you from setting.

When one who complains of thirst asks it for rain,

Then that rain-bearing star is about to pour.

For no house of learning has failed to find him

A cloud vying in abundance with the pouring rain.

Nor has any house of charity failed to find him

Near to the one who calls him to goodness.

Nor has any house of healing failed to find him

When it ails, a physician for its ailment.

Ah, you who return with good fortune, hoping

For blessings and delight for yourself among your people,

We have praised the return after absence; rejoice,

And settle in the homeland's open bosom.
