تَجَلَّىappeared مُحَيَّاهُhis countenance فَحَيُّواso salute مُحَمَّدَاMuhammad
وَقَدْand indeed آبَhe returned فِيin ذِكْرَاهُhis commemoration حَيّاًalive مُخَلَّدَاimmortalized
His countenance is revealed—so salute Muhammad,
His light shone, so greet Muhammad,
And in his commemoration he has returned, alive and immortal.
His mention has come to life, immortalized.
نَضَتْstripped away يَدُرَبِّthe hand of the lord of العَرْشِthe throne عَنْهُfrom him حِجَابَهُhis veil
وَكَانَand it was عَلَىupon التِّمْثَالِthe statue ظِلاًّa shadow مِنَof الرَّدَىdeath
The hand of the lord of the throne stripped his veil from him,
The Lord of the Throne unveiled Himself to him,
And it had lain upon the statue as a shadow of death.
And he was a shadow, protected from harm.
لَقَدْindeed أُنْصِفَwas treated justly المَظْلُومُthe wronged man إِبَّانَat the time of مَجْدِهِhis glory
فَعَادَso he returned بِمَاthrough what أَوْلاَهُbestowed upon him مَوْلاَهُhis lord أَمْجَدَاmore glorious
Indeed, the wronged man received justice in his hour of glory,
The oppressed were done justice during his glory,
So he returned more glorious through what his lord bestowed upon him.
So his Master returned his favors, magnified.
فَلِلَّهِso, to God فَارُوقٌFarouk وَمَاand what هُوَhe بَاذِلٌis giving
لِيُسْعِدَso that he may make happy أَبْنَاءَthe children of البِلاَدِthe land فَيَسْعَدَاand so he may be happy
So praise be to God for Farouk and what he gives,
By God, Omar is no miser,
To gladden the children of the land, and so be happy himself.
Making the children of the country happy, he is happy.
وَماand not العِيدُthe festival أَنْthat يَخْتَصَّshould have exclusive claim بِالبِشْرِto gladness عَاهِلٌa monarch
وَلَكِنَّهbut it is عِيدٌa festival إِذَاwhen الشَّعبُthe people عَيَّدَاcelebrate
And it is no festival when a monarch alone enjoys gladness;
No ruler owns the feast day,
But it is a festival when the people celebrate.
Rather it is a feast when the people celebrate.
فَعِشْso live on يَاO عَزِيزَbeloved of الشَّرْقِthe East لاnot مِصْرَEgypt وَحْدَهَاher alone
وَكُنْand be أَبَدَfor all الدَّهْرِtime المَلِيكَthe king المْؤَيَّدَاthe upheld one
So live on, O beloved of the East, not of Egypt alone,
Live long, pride of the East, not just Egypt,
And be forever the king who is upheld.
Be forever the supported, victorious King.
وَإِذْناًand, with your leave فَإِنِّيfor indeed I اليَوْمَtoday أَقْضِيI pay لِرَاحِلٍto one departed
عَلَىowed by مِصْرَEgypt حَقّاًa rightful due كَادَnearly يَبْلَىit wears away فَجُدِّداthen it was renewed
And grant me leave, for today I pay to one departed
So today I judge on behalf of a traveler,
A debt owed by Egypt that nearly faded, then was renewed.
A right over Egypt, that was nearly worn out, so renew it.
