أَسعَدَهَا داراً بِأَهْلِيهَا

Elias built it as a home—and how

Elias built it a house, yet

happy a home it is with its inhabitants!

He did not make it as happy a home as its people;

أَبهَجُ مِنْ ظَاهِرِ زينَاتِهَا

أَبهَجُ مِنْ ظَاهِرِ زينَاتِهَا

لِلْمُجْتَلِي زِينَاتِ منْ فِيهَا

لِلْمُجْتَلِي زِينَاتِ منْ فِيهَا

More delightful than its outward adornments

More delightful than its outward adornment

to the beholder are the graces of those within.

Is the adornment of those dwelling within.

قَصِيدَةٌ رَائِعَةٌ أَكْمَلَتْ

قَصِيدَةٌ رَائِعَةٌ أَكْمَلَتْ

حَلَى مَبَانِيَها معانِيَهَا

حَلَى مَبَانِيَها معانِيَهَا

A splendid poem—perfected

A sublime ode now completed,

by its meanings are the adornments of its buildings.

Its words made as sweet as its meaning.

بُورِكَ فِي البَانِي وَفِي أُسْرَةٍ

بُورِكَ فِي البَانِي وَفِي أُسْرَةٍ

لَمْ تَعْرِفِ الزهْوَ وَلا التِّيْهَا

لَمْ تَعْرِفِ الزهْوَ وَلا التِّيْهَا

Blessings upon the builder and upon a family

Blessings on the builder and on a family

that has known neither vanity nor arrogance.

That has known no vanity or confusion,

مِنْ نَفْسِهَا لا جَاهِهَا مَجْدُهَا

مِنْ نَفْسِهَا لا جَاهِهَا مَجْدُهَا

ومِنْ سجاياهَا مِعالِيهَا

ومِنْ سجاياهَا مِعالِيهَا

Its glory comes from itself, not its standing,

Its glory earned by its own merits,

and its high honors from its virtues.

Its nobility shaped by its own virtues.

لَيْسَ عَلَى النعْمَى لَهَا حَاسِدٌ

لَيْسَ عَلَى النعْمَى لَهَا حَاسِدٌ

يحْفَظُهَا اللهُ وَيحمِيهَا

يحْفَظُهَا اللهُ وَيحمِيهَا

No one envies it for its good fortune;

No envier arises against its fortunes,

God preserves it and protects it.

May God preserve and protect it!
