وَالثَّغْرُand the port city مَاnot زَالَceased (with ما: still remains) فِيin المَأْthe noble deeds (word begins)
وَالثَّغْرُ مَا زَالَ فِي المَأْ
ثُرَاتِnoble deeds (word ends) رَاجِحَweightier كِفَّهْits scale-pan
ثُرَاتِ رَاجِحَ كِفَّهْ
And the port city still, in noble
The chin still winning, as was its habit
deeds, has the weightier scale-pan.
Prevailing, as of old, over present and past
كَعَهْدِهِas was its wont فَازَit won بِالسَّبْـwith the lead (word begins)
كَعَهْدِهِ فَازَ بِالسَّبْـ
ـقِlead (word ends) وَالحَوَاضِرُand the cities خَلْفَهْbehind it
ـقِ وَالحَوَاضِرُ خَلْفَهْ
As ever, it won first
And victory, in every perilous moment
place, with the cities behind it.
Remaining allied to its pledge ever constant
وَالْفَوْزُand victory فِيin كُلِّevery حَالٍsituation
وَالْفَوْزُ فِي كُلِّ حَالٍ
خَطِيرَةٍperilous ظَلَّremained حِلْفَهْits ally
خَطِيرَةٍ ظَلَّ حِلْفَهْ
And victory, in every situation
of peril, remained its ally.
