A nation with guides does not go astray.

Bring the wronged good news: there are judges in Egypt.

The happiest of peoples are those among whom

Justice has taken root, and arbitrary injustice has fled.

He who fills ears with pearls has been saved,

And that deliverance has gladdened eyes.

That head, in whom became manifest

The two traits of triumph: intelligence and steadfastness.

He never ceased to labor at his pursuit,

And his two allies were hope and calm deliberation.

Rising or crouching, until there appeared

A sign of fairness, illuminated by sunlight.

Then he sprang forward, seizing its opportunity,

And a true man is one who lets no opportunities slip.

    He splendidly defended his watering-place,

His words and tears racing one another.

No, by my life, no sanctuary collapses,

While it has defenders in the difficult trial.

Honor to you who acquitted him! Truly,

Justice is never lost, however much time passes.

Which mortal has been granted protection, in

His judgment, from a course that harbors faults?

And to whom are revealed from on high

    Absolute fairness and conclusive judgment?

Reason has been granted—but passion has not—

Knowledge of who is innocent or guilty.

And even the most precise of men in his assessment

Has often found liabilities obscured from him.

    Acquit—that is more righteous—whenever

Doubts stand in the way of certainty.

    O noble-hearted genius, whose

Pebble of wisdom has been polished by calamities,

Return to your exalted office, in

A life of ease; and long live Egypt, the maiden!

Egypt whose people are free and united,

Not she who was abased, with her people scattered.

Return, and be the marvel of the age, whose

Word is final when the trustworthy are in doubt.

For what you endured has given you,

Out of sorrow, the most precious gift that life receives.
