صاحبتموني فبئسَت صُحبةٌ ليَ من

عَتبٍ وَشكوى وإِعتابٍ وإِشكاءِ

عَتبٍ وَشكوى وإِعتابٍ وإِشكاءِ

You befriended me—what wretched company for me, full of

You befriended me, but your friendship was misery for me

Reproach and complaint, appeasement and redress,

Full of blame, complaints, grievances, and laments

وحالةٍ لكُم رسميَّةٍ ابداً

وحالةٍ لكُم رسميَّةٍ ابداً

تشفُّ عن نقطةٍ في القلبِ سوداء

تشفُّ عن نقطةٍ في القلبِ سوداء

And your ever-formal manner,

You always had an official stance

Revealing a black spot within the heart.

Revealing a black spot in my heart

من أين جاءَت ولا يَسطيعُ يَنقُطُها

من أين جاءَت ولا يَسطيعُ يَنقُطُها

الّا الَّذي حلَّ منهُ في السُوَيداءِ

الّا الَّذي حلَّ منهُ في السُوَيداءِ

Where did it come from? None can make that mark

I don't know where it came from or how to erase it

Except the one who has dwelt in its innermost, dark core.

Except by the One who descended serenely

وكم قوارِصَ منكم كنت أحملها

وكم قوارِصَ منكم كنت أحملها

وَاللَهِ اهوَنُ منها الحَملُ للداءِ

وَاللَهِ اهوَنُ منها الحَملُ للداءِ

And how many stinging taunts from you I used to bear!

How many burdens have I carried because of you

By God, bearing illness is easier than bearing them.

By God, they were lighter than carrying disease

الحمد لِلَّه ان كانَت صداقتكم

الحمد لِلَّه ان كانَت صداقتكم

تؤذي اذا لم تكونوا من احبّائي

تؤذي اذا لم تكونوا من احبّائي

Praise be to God—if your friendship

Praise be to God, if your friendship

Caused hurt, then you were not among my loved ones.

Pained me when you weren't my loved ones

وإن يكن ليس الّا صحبةٌ وَقِلاً

وإن يكن ليس الّا صحبةٌ وَقِلاً

فلا برحتم مدى الايام اعدآئي

فلا برحتم مدى الايام اعدآئي

And if it is nothing but companionship and hatred,

If it was nothing but companionship for a while

Then may you remain my enemies for all time.

You wouldn't stay my enemies forever
