    The fresh blossoms' lips smiled

when a herald arrived in the morning.

And the supple boughs dance, and the leaves

have clapped, and birds have sung.

And the water ran, fleeing, just as

the skittish gazelle flees being hunted.

Then the breeze followed it, running behind it,

while it sought refuge from it in its meadow.

    And morning glittered, smiling, while

the light of its radiance overpowers the night.

Then we saw the dew upon the meadow as crystal—

and, glory to God, what crystal!

It gleams upon the emerald of leaves,

like scattered pearls set in rows.

And the anemone appeared, resembling a tongue of

fire, where dew and blaze met.

And the gardens' narcissi resembled eyes

opened by graceful, lovely maidens with large, dark eyes.

How lovely a place to sit there, containing

    all that makes hearts brighten,

where there are water and greenery; and if

the beloved is with us, joy is complete.
