شكتshe complained وجعاًpain فيin عينهاher eye فاجبتهاso I answered her
شكت وجعاً في عينها فاجبتها
لقدindeed باتَspent the night كلٌّeach one آخذاًtaking ثارهُhis revenge بهِthrough it
لقد باتَ كلٌّ آخذاً ثارهُ بهِ
She complained of pain in her eye, so I answered her:
Indeed, each has spent the night taking his revenge through that pain.
فكمfor how many اوجَعتit has wounded قَلباa heart برشوقwith volleys of سهامهاits arrows
فكم اوجَعت قَلبا برشوق سهامها
كَذلكthus يَجزيrequites اللَهُGod كلّاeach one بذنبهِfor his sin
كَذلك يَجزي اللَهُ كلّا بذنبهِ
For how many a heart her eye has wounded with volleys of its arrows!
Thus does God requite each for his sin.
