In you, eminence has attained its fullest height.

For there is light upon radiant light.

Through you, pride has been clothed in its most splendid robe.

And every robe of pride upon you is splendid.

O you whose heart's blaze, with its brilliance,

Is more soothing to the thirsty than cool waters,

And it is pure water in its gentleness and clarity:

In it, then, fire and waters meet.

Our ears have drawn delight from your name,

So they have become greatly envied by mouths.

And justice is your way; you were praised for striking a balance

    Between ears and lips.

And even if praise of you should reach an end,

Forgive me, for your excellence has no end.

You are beyond compare, so you seek a poet

Who, in poetry, is likewise without equal.

And you are indeed that one; who can bring us wondrous works

Of yours, giving verse commands and prohibitions?

For poetry came to me, proudly swaying its shoulder,

And says, 'I am the servant of Abd Allah.'
