عجبتُ من هذه الدنيا فنعمتُها

عجبتُ من هذه الدنيا فنعمتُها

لَيست تُصيبُ امرءً امنّا على قَدرهِ

لَيست تُصيبُ امرءً امنّا على قَدرهِ

I marveled at this world, for its bounty

I wondered at this life, its prosperity

does not reach a person among us according to his worth.

Does not affect a person, only according to his measure

تُثيبُ بعضاً لِبرٍّ من سواةُ اتى

تُثيبُ بعضاً لِبرٍّ من سواةُ اتى

كالنحل يجني لمن لم يَجنِ من شَجَرِه

كالنحل يجني لمن لم يَجنِ من شَجَرِه

It rewards some for goodness that came from someone else,

It rewards some for righteousness from the past

Like bees gathering for one who did not gather from his trees.

Like bees reaping honey for one who planted not the trees
