لا تركب العفوَ ما كان الإِكافُ لَهُ

لا تركب العفوَ ما كان الإِكافُ لَهُ

فانَّهُ ان جرى لم تأمَن الزلقا

فانَّهُ ان جرى لم تأمَن الزلقا

Do not ride the donkey colt as long as it bears a pack saddle;

Do not ride on the verge of pardon, if equity is not for it,

for if it runs, you will not be safe from slipping.

For if it flows, you will not be safe from stumbling.

واعرَورِ مهراً من الخيل العِرابِ اذا

واعرَورِ مهراً من الخيل العِرابِ اذا

مشى تمكَّنَ او اجرَيتَهُ سبقا

مشى تمكَّنَ او اجرَيتَهُ سبقا

And ride bareback a colt of purebred Arabian horses: when

And harness a horse from Arabian steeds, if

it walks, it is sure-footed; or if you set it running, it takes the lead.

It walks steadily when controlled, or you let it gallop ahead.
