ذكرتت عهدَهنَّ اوتارُ عودٍ

ذكرتت عهدَهنَّ اوتارُ عودٍ

وَحياةً في عالم الحَيَوانِ

وَحياةً في عالم الحَيَوانِ

A lute’s strings recalled their former days,

Their promise was recalled by lute strings' tone

And a life in the world of living creatures;

And life amidst the realm of fauna shone

فَلَها من جَرآءِ ذاك حنينٌ

فَلَها من جَرآءِ ذاك حنينٌ

كَحَنين المتيَّم الوَلهانِ

كَحَنين المتيَّم الوَلهانِ

So, because of that, they feel a yearning

Hence it was seized by yearning and lament

Like the yearning of a love-struck, distraught lover.

Like one enamored immersed in rapture prone
