You find in me something of every opposite and its opposite.

Of every contradiction and instilled contradictions in me

In me are day and night, joys and sorrows.

I laugh, while my tears linger bewildered in my eye.

I laugh and my tears wander between my eyes

وفيني بداية وقت ونهاية أزمان

اشتاق باكر واعطي امسي حنيني

اشتاق باكر واعطي امسي حنيني

And in me are time's beginning and the end of ages.

And in me there is the beginning of time and the end of eras

I yearn for tomorrow and give my yesterday my longing.

I yearn early and give my evening my longing

واسقي قلوب الناس عشقٍ وظميان

واسقي قلوب الناس عشقٍ وظميان

واهدي حيارى الدرب واحتار ويني

واهدي حيارى الدرب واحتار ويني

And I water people's hearts with love, yet I am thirsty.

And I quench the hearts of people with love and thirst

And I guide those lost on the path, yet wonder where I am.

And guide the lost of the path while I wander where I am

واحاوم صقور الهوا حوم نشوان

واحاوم صقور الهوا حوم نشوان

واسيل الوديان دمع حزينِ

واسيل الوديان دمع حزينِ

And I circle with the falcons of love, circling in rapture.

And I circle the falcons of passion, circling

And I set the valleys flowing with sorrowful tears.

And I spill valleys with the tears of sorrow

في عيني اليمنى من الورد بستان

في عيني اليمنى من الورد بستان

وفي عيني اليسرا عجاج السنينِ

وفي عيني اليسرا عجاج السنينِ

In my right eye is a garden of roses.

In my right eye there is a garden of roses

And in my left eye is the swirling dust of years.

And in my left eye the birds of years

تهزمني النجلا وانا ند فرسان

واخفي طعوني والمحبه تبين

واخفي طعوني والمحبه تبين

The wide-eyed beauty defeats me, though I am a match for knights.

The stars defeat me while I am a spear of horsemen

And I hide my stab wounds, while love shows.

And I conceal my wounds while love appears

ِإن ما عرفتيني فلا ني بزعلان

ِإن ما عرفتيني فلا ني بزعلان

حتى انا تراني احترت فيني

حتى انا تراني احترت فيني

If you have not understood me, I am not upset.

If you don't know me, I am not upset

Even I, you see, am bewildered by myself.

Even I wander confused within myself
