أبي منه الخبر و يقول للّه

أبي منه الخبر و يقول للّه

لفى المرسول ما عيَّن محلَّه

لفى المرسول ما عيَّن محلَّه

I want news from him, but he says, 'No.'

My father asks for news and says to God,

The messenger arrived but did not specify his whereabouts.

The messenger found what was assigned to him,

و قلبي تايه(ن) من عام الاوّل

و قلبي تايه(ن) من عام الاوّل

ألا يا الله يسّر من يدلّه

ألا يا الله يسّر من يدلّه

And my heart has been lost since last year.

And my heart wanders since the first year,

O God, provide someone to guide it.

Oh God, make it easy for whoever guides it,

خذاه اللّي على خدَّه علامه

خذاه اللّي على خدَّه علامه

سوادة غيم في شمس(ن) مطلّه

سوادة غيم في شمس(ن) مطلّه

The one with a mark on his cheek took it—

Seized by one who has a mark on his cheek,

A cloud's dark patch on an emerging sun.

Clouds of darkness in a rising sun,

سرقني ما دريت انّه سرقني

سرقني ما دريت انّه سرقني

سلبني و أحسب إني فاطن(ن) له

سلبني و أحسب إني فاطن(ن) له

He stole me; I did not realize he had stolen me.

He stole from me without me knowing he stole from me,

He robbed me, though I thought I was wise to him.

He robbed me while I thought I was aware of him,

انا يوم أرسل عيونه لقلبي

انا يوم أرسل عيونه لقلبي

عطيته مهجتي و المعطي الله

عطيته مهجتي و المعطي الله

As for me, when he sent his eyes to my heart,

The day he sent his eyes to my heart,

I gave him my lifeblood, and God is the Giver.

I gave him my innermost being, and the Giver is God,

نصف زين الخلايق في عيونه

نصف زين الخلايق في عيونه

و باقي الزين في باقيه كلّه

و باقي الزين في باقيه كلّه

Half the beauty of all people lies in his eyes,

Half the beauty of creation is in his eyes,

And the rest of beauty lies in all the rest of him.

And the rest of the beauty is in all of him.
