    A gentle breeze blew toward me from the north,

    Carrying the scent of lavender and clover,

    لى لمح ظله من النشوه جفل

    From rain-fed meadows, whose gazelle frolics coyly;

    When he glimpsed his shadow, he shied in his exuberance.

    كم شطير بالقناصة قد قتل

    Hard to attain, he slays lovers;

    How many a master hunter he has slain!

    Like the Eid sun, dazzling in beauty,

    When he appears, every star's light fades.

    He singled me out for an encounter with lawful enchantment,

    And I testify that enchantment settled in my heart.

    Accustomed as I am to facing the mightiest of men,

    Yet my heart trembled, abashed by his allure.

    I said, “Life has passed without union.”

    He said, “If you tried, you who keep away, you would attain it.”

    I said, “If I had any hope, even in imagination,

    I would have traded yearning for hope.”

    O dew of the cloud upon the mountain roses,

    O fragrance of flowers in the meadows of the plain,

    ما تبدل بك مع العالم بدل

    Exquisite beauty and majesty unite in you;

    I would trade you for no one in all the world.
