1. سأرجو ولو أن الرجاءَ عقيم

    وأحيا ولو أن الحياة جحيم

    I shall hope even if hope is barren.

    And I shall live even if life is hell.

  2. وأترك قلبي سادراً دون حبّه

    يجاذب إلفاً في حشاه يُقيم

    And leave my heart wandering heedlessly, apart from its beloved,

    Contending with an intimate companion who dwells within its depths.

  3. فإن كان جسمي مسقماً ومعذباً

    فإن فؤادي رغم ذاك سليم

    For if my body is ailing and tormented,

    Then my heart, despite that, is sound.

  4. طروب يناجيه الصبا ويهزّه

    إلى الحسن شوق في هواك عظيم

    It is rapturous; the east wind whispers to it, and it is stirred

    Toward beauty by a mighty yearning in its love for you.

  5. تعلّم من عينيك حبًّا فزاده

    غراماً وأضحى بالعيون يهيم

    It learned love from your eyes, and that increased its

    Passion; and it grew enamored of eyes.

  6. يناجيك بالبيت الذي قد أجاده

    خبير بأسرار الوداد عليمُ

    It whispers to you through the verse finely crafted

    By an expert well versed in the secrets of affection.

  7. ستفنى الضلوع الطاويات على الأسى

    وحبك في تلك الضلوع مقيم

    The ribs that fold around sorrow will perish,

    And love for you abides within those ribs.
