وحقand by the sanctity of الهوىlove لوif نلتI obtained منfrom فيكyour mouth رشفةa sip
لكانwould be بهاthrough it سعديmy happiness وكانand would be شفائياmy cure
And by love's sanctity, if I gained a sip from your mouth,
And had I but one draught of love from your being
It would bring me happiness and be my cure.
Therein lies my joy; therein my remedy
ولوand if مسحتcaressed كفاكyour two hands قلباًa heart فقدتهI had lost it
لعادit would return طروباًenraptured للحياةto life مناجياsoftly communing
And if your two hands caressed a heart I had lost,
And were your hand to lightly touch my heart
It would return in rapture, communing with life.
Lost once, 'twould throb anew, and joyously
ولوand if نلتI obtained منfrom ريّاكyour fragrance ريحاًa scent أشمّهاI inhale it
لأمسىwould become بهاthrough it الجثمانthe body أخضرgreen نامياgrowing
And if I caught a scent of your fragrance to inhale,
Could I but scent the winds that blow from thee
Through it, my body would turn green and flourish.
This frame with very life would spring, flowering
ولوand if سمعتheard أذنيmy ear لصوتكof your voice نغمةa note
لماwould not طربتI thrilled يوماًever لصوتat a voice شداsang لياto me
And if my ear heard a note of your voice,
And were my ears to catch your voice's tune
I would never thrill to a voice that sang to me.
Never again another's song would stir me
