You infected me with a measure of passion,

and I had been safe from contagion.

And in days gone by I had always been safe

from the humiliation of illnesses and affliction,

until my gaze bent over my heart

and so revealed jealousy and solace.

Then the master of my bondage said to me, “Come to your senses,

for I am not one who accepts a claim.”
