منعتَyou prevented المقلتينthe two eyes منfrom الهُجوعِsleep
منعتَ المقلتين من الهُجوعِ
ووكلتَand you charged المدامعَthe tear ducts بالدموعِwith tears
ووكلتَ المدامعَ بالدموعِ
You have kept my two eyes from sleep,
You stilled the twisting eyelids from weeping
And charged my tear ducts with tears,
And tasked the tears to flow from the eyes
وأضنيتَand you exhausted الفؤادَthe heart بطولِthrough the duration of وجدٍlonging
وأضنيتَ الفؤادَ بطولِ وجدٍ

أقامَ عليهِ ما بينَ الضلوعِ
And worn my heart out with prolonged longing,
And saddened the heart with prolonged passion
To which what lies between my ribs has clung.
That stood erect between the ribs

O moon upon a verdant bough,
O moon on a delicate branch
Of wondrous beauty, who begrudges rising,
Of exquisite beauty, reluctant to rise

You will know I'm depressed because of you
And what life is like for one dejected and distraught.
How can the life of a depressed one be serene
