فلوso if أردتُI wished for المنامَsleep لمdid not أنمِI sleep
فلو أردتُ المنامَ لم أنمِ

You condemned me to sickness and pain
So if I wished for sleep, I would not sleep.
If I wanted to sleep, I could not sleep

كسَوتها عبرةً بدَت بدمِ

You made my eyes lonely without rest
You clothed it in a tear that came forth with blood.
As you adorned them with tears that appeared as blood

For God's sake, have mercy on a soul and a body

Your love endured in my heart, O my hope

And yet my patience for it did not last
